Eons ago, I posted where I had built a real slow turning horizontal disc sander with quick change discs.
I was in the shop using it today and wondering how many of you bastids ever made one and if you're gettin as much good out of it as I am?
Here's a pic to warm the memory up if you can't recall it.

I built a slow speed one into the top of an old sewing machine table. It is great for getting flat grinds FLAT, and sharpening.Runs on a 3/4 HP vari-speed,high torque DC motor which only runs from 0-280RPM.Has a 9" disc.Being reversable makes changing blade sides easier.Great addition for the shop.

I don't know how I ever got and kept anything flat before I built mine Stacy!
It's amazing how fast it removes deep scratches too, even though it's running so slow.
I was working some titanium today, folder liners, and using a new 120 grit sheet of paper, it removed deep scratches pretty fast. Sure is nice being able to make smooth working folders with it!

I used to have one that I built into its own cabinet. I had used pulleys to reduce it to a crawling pace, and had it mounted horizontal like yours.

I have since torn it apart though. Now I have a 1.5hp variable Leeson with reverse powering up my 9" disc. I mounted it vertical this time around.

With the zirconia discs available, they go from disc sanders to disc grinders! :)

Mine doesn't get used a whole lot, but I sure am glad I have it when I need it.
