Out on a job the other day I was weedeating, concentrating on my work.. I got a cold creeping tingle, which ran from the bottom end of my spine to the back of my neck. Looking up from the thick patch of weeds I was attacking, I saw a tall chunky dude staring at me, maybe 10 yds away. I smiled and waved a hand politely. He just stood there staring. His face was cold and empty. I inconspicuously shifted my left leg forward, ready to toss the weeder at him, and follow up with a sharp kick if the weirdo charged me. The guy barely even blinked. He stood there for well over a minute staring at me, before turning and walking away.

Idk..maybe he never saw a weeder before? Or maybe he never saw a big tall dude all in black working in the heat? Maybe he was a nut?

*meant 10 yds...hate touch screens

Maybe your personal bubble has a bigger radius than most?

Maybe he was just "boredtodeth" and is making up stories? lol... j/k of course..There are some real creepy people out there and I have had the unfortunate experience of meeting a few of them. Also don't be so quick to throw your weed eater. Those strings at high speeds can do some real damage. I had a large welt across my arm from following behind my father to closely while weed eating when I was a kid. He turned around with the weed eater and caught my arm.

Hey! I'm not that "chunky", and there was a good-looking girl about 25 yrds behind you, warming up for a run. I guess you missed the discrete nod...

What you didn't see was the girl kneeling down in the weeds too :D

I've had similar experiences when I was working on foreclosures, people of a different mindset like to inhabit an empty house.

The one bent over at the water tap ? ;) ......... Dude was probably wasted on something.

Lol..he was a weird one. See a lot of oddballs and drug addicts around that way. Im guessing he was sizing me up, wanting my wallet. Ya, wouldnt want to damage my weeder lol...my face is much less expensive. In THAT neck of the woods, yeah..biiiiiig personal bubble. Plus, ive had people try and steal stuff off my truck around there before.

I used to work with some folks that did repairs and grounds maintenance for a high school in Liberty City, FL (downtown Miami). One day the guys were weeding, and stopped for lunch. They left their weeders where they were working and sat down under a tree maybe 5 yards away. A guy comes riding by on his bicycle, waves at them, then picks up a weeder and hauls ass off. In broad daylight! They never did catch him. lol

Same school had almost 150ft of new, connected copper pipe taken out of the ground and an aluminum exit stair canopy chopped and hauled off overnight.

People can be pretty damn shady.

Yup, they can be. Drug addicts will do just about anything for a hit. My pos cousin is proof of that.

Maybe the guy was just looking in your direction and it was you who got spooked. Then this "I inconspicuously shifted my left leg forward, ready to toss the weeder at him, and follow up with a sharp kick" wasn't as "inconspicuous" as you might have thought. So the guy became frightened then froze. On some other MB he could be very well posting about a crazy big dude wearing black in the heat threatening him with a weeder. Yea just never know. LOL!

And everybody thinks I am nuts because I carry and old model Ruger 7 1/2' barrel 44 Mag in a western Gun Belt with me when I am in the Woods.! You just never know when you need a plinker -- ya know .??

I went four wheeling in the Ocala NF a few years back. I stopped after off trailing for an hour to have a drink and a sandwhich. I had to be about 15 miles into the Forest, no paved roads, nothing around just trees, scrub, and sand. I had been sitting for about 5 minutes and up walks a guy wanting to know what I was doing back here. There were no houses, tents or anything or anyone else around. I guess he was living in the wild . I heard of people living in small camping communities in the Florida wilderness. I did have a pistol on me but that guy got the drop on me real easy, not expecting to see someone way back in the woods. It does get pretty creepy in Florida"s NF. Allot of people go missing, especially college girls I was told. It made me more aware from then on.

Most people don't have any intent to harm or be weird except the few that do then they will use a victim like a bag of chips and toss away the bag when they finish. You can't always tell by how they act but when someone makes your "creepy" meter go into alarm you need to have an exit plan. The worst creepy people don't give off any major weird vibes, they have brains and social skills.

True, but it never hurts to brace yourself. The guy just seemed out of it. If my creepy meter goes, I'll brace myself and wait. He didnt make any move, so I let it go. I scared him? I doubt a rabid rotty would scare that guy. Besides, people in the neighborhood have seen him creeping around.

My buddys grandfather had alstheimers, when frightened by an orderly, the 70 yo man tossed him. The guys eyes were empty, much like someone on a high. I slid my leg forward a lil, and changed grip on my weeder. I didnt stop working, just watched him from corner of my eye. By cold and empty, im saying he looked like he was of a nasty thought. Lol I wasnt standing there waiting for him, just braced if he did.

The sad reality is that there are people who want to do bad things to other people. You just never know. I have been conditioned to react to a hinky feeling. If you want a good read, get "the gift of fear". Your gut is almost never wrong. I had a kid walk up and knock on my door. No cars in the drive and no sign anyone was home. I didn't answer the door, but got a hinky feeling. 15 minutes later a big guy came up to my door, no knock, just trying the doorknob, looking at windows, walking into my fenced back yard. He had no business around my house. I think they were having the kid knock and if there wasn't a response, they come and try to find a way in. I had two full grown wolves at the time and I loosed them into the back yard as well as the sound of a 12 ga. pump racking one into the chamber literally made him pee his pants. He had at least one good bite mark on his butt as well. I learned to trust my gut, and it has never let me down. A guy standing in the woods staring at me would get at the very least a WTH are you looking at. If your git was telling you something was wrong...it was..
