I realize there have been a number of threads about this mark, so I thought I'd start another. :) My hope here is that we can put together a definitive reference for folks to figure out what they have. Here are mine:

Clearly Bura due to "LB", but late Bura by size of the mark and the sun indicating an assistant. This blade has "U.B." on the other side.

Also a late Bura, but lacking the LB notation. Has UB.

Slightly earlier Bura. Smaller crescent also facing different direction. Also with sun; UB on flip side.

This one is the questionable one. Appears to be a KLUVK, so likely Keshar Lal using the crescent. No UB notation.

Please add corrections or pics of your Crescent marked blades.

Most of the KLVUK's have no markings at all. Just recently, I've seen 2 so far that had markings, by Keshar if I remember right. As I recall he studied under Bura and Bura allowed him to use his mark? Anybody remember hearing that same thing.

I thought that he had changed his mark again.

It's also possible that's an older KLVUK and it was actually made by Bura himself. Heard those exist too.

Smarter, wiser folks (ok that's everybody here) will be along.

Keshar was an understudy of Bura. When the KLVUK was first introduced Yangdu posted that Bura had given permission to Keshar to use the crescent moon symbol.

I'd prefer the mark stay individual to each maker (makes it easier on us) but it won't stop me from buying more.

That's what I recall Auntie saying as well. I think Keshar has since started using a new mark. I agree on keeping individual marks. Make's like easier. I can see it with Bura and understudies helping him, hard to avoid and they are all top quality. He no doubt watched his understudies quite closely.

My recently acquired Lok VUK has the "U.B." and 2 devanagari characters on the right side, and two more devanagari characters with a small fish mark beween the characters and the bolster on the left side.

The fish is Lok's mark. I believe the devanagari characters on the UB side are also for Uncle Bill.

Can't say on the other side with Lok's mark, don't recall the fish being between any characters.

The characters under the UB side is Bir Gorkha(sp? when in doubt put the h behind the k?) Which is the factory.
