My take on this one is somewhat different than the excellent montage image Eric Eggly/P7 made, which is included in Coops' thread about the "good stuff" at the Boston Art Knife Classic. I skipped elements that make for a complete photographic presentation and went straight for the drama.

Imagine you are a mounted marauder during the 1700s somewhere in the Arab world. You and the rest of your cavalry have come through impossible terrain only to be trapped by it. An advancing company of foot-soldiers closes in from behind - 1,100 men - each with a crescent moon spear atop a 10' shaft. They are well equipped to hook and slash your horse's tendons as you try to engage with sword from your saddle.

So far you have protected your mount but - No! - the bastard has hooked you off your horse in the melee and now plunges the spear point deep into your abdomen...

It is a wicked weapon that inflicts terrible wounds - wounds that quickly disable, leaving one helpless; tortured by a slow death through bleeding, or surviving that, death within a few days from infection.

As to Josh Smith's prowess at the forge and in his shop, and also his willingness to push the limits... this Crescent Moon Spear says it all.

Buddy, that's super cool. Love the story too, I'm glad we now have civilized weapons like a AK-47.;)

Wow, great photo, Buddy. The sharp contrast in the steel against a dark background like that is REALLY striking. Outstanding

Absolutely stunning lighting and character. And a story that makes me wince.

A blockbuster!

GREAT picture AND story to go with it Buddy!

That truly IS a work of art by Josh. Amazing symmetry in the damascus and blade grinds.

ha ha- awesome!:D

That's a great image Buddy. I don't get the sense of dimension that I did from the other images, but the details in the damascus and the fittings are perfectly captured and beautifully presented.
