I just happened to come across these at Walmart. The model number appears to be 98WC. It's a nice little Stockman, the fit and finish is great and it looks nice too with the wood scales (Crimson Birch). I already know I like the Schrade+. I was trying to find a little more info on it and can't find a thing. Was this one made specifically for Walmart? It looks almost identical to the Ducks Unlimited knife.

(edited to add: I forgot to mention that I picked this up for $15 :D)

Thanks,

Rob

Rob, punch in Crimson Birch in the forum search. There is a thread from last year with a little information about these handles.

The Birch models were produced for awhile and are still around. While the patterns are the standard Schrade models this handle material ( which I think is quite nice ) was made to be a bit different ( and less expensive ) than the DU models which were ( and I believe still are ) either oak or walnut. Usually there Maple knives are a phenolic ( resin impregnated ) I do not know why perhapes something about the wood ( hardness perhapes). I could only guess but, I do believe Walmart was the largest purchaser of these and they could very well have been made mainly for them it would fit Schrade policys and past procedures. I hope this answer helps ( it is a bit more nebulous than I like to be. ) LT
