Like any information on applying the crinkle coat finish that many knife manufactures are using, I have a K5 hawk that I would like to redo in that style of finish.

There are various sprays and bake ons available, I don't have any sources for them but it should be a simple matter to find one, they're used alot in restoration of old tools and auto parts and such. The easiest bet is to go to the auto parts store and look for black crinkle valve cover spray paint(the one I have says it's for corvette valve covers), and follow the instructions on the can to the letter. It'll take a good while to cure (think a week or so) to full hardness, but should be just the thing to experiment on without having to resort to ordering.

While it isn't "crinkle" coating, some knifemakers use GunKote from KG Industries Inc on their knives. It's a spray-on & baked coating.

K-Phos pre-treatment: http://www.kgcoatings.com/kphos.html

(edit to add) The strong suggestion from a maker who uses it is: Before applying GK to steel, get the steel very *VERY* clean/degreased and always use their K-Phos primer under your application of Gun Kote. Other than that, he said it is actually pretty easy stuff to use.
