Hey Guys,

I'm not real familiar with the Cripple Creek knife company so I wanted to see if anyone could give me some background info on a knife I stumbled upon at a flea market over the weekend.

The knife was a barlow pattern with two blades, long match strike pulls, and black, or dark colored, saw-bone scales. There was a CC with an arrow stamped on one of the bolsters and the tang stamp read Cripple Creek and Effingham IL USA. I think there may have been a Cripple Creek logo on the main blade as well. The guy selling the knife didn't have much info on it but suggested it when I asked if he had any GEC's for sale. The f&f was very nice and seemed to be inline with the quality seen at GEC. Unfortunately, the box for the knife had been lost but it did appear to be in excellent condition. The guy wanted $60 for it but I told him I'd rather work out a trade. If anyone has any background info on this particular knife (blade steel, when it may have been made, value, etc.) please shoot me a PM or respond in this thread.

Thanks Again,

-Nick

The value is right on. It was made around 94-95 by Black Jack knives during it's feeble attempt to keep the brand alive.

Nick....

Bobby is certainly a great authority on Cripple Creek Knives and he would know value........Black Jack knives at the time was having Queen cutlery make their barlow's

Thanks Boggs. The Queen rumor is one that I have never been able to pin down. Thanks for the confirmation.
I still like the Effingham barlows. Most are fairly decent.

Thanks for the info guys! Anyone know if this is a rare find and what the blade steel is? I was thinking of making it an EDC but I could always add it too my collection too... ;)

This great knife for EDC a real workhorse, and can easily be a part of collection. I had one like this as an EDC for quiet sometimes, no complaints.
It is not rare find, though the one with 2 blades is less often seen. The price is OK even a bit lower than usual.
I believe you are talking about similar to this knife

Very decent looking smooth bone on that Barlow, Mike. Nice depth and transluscence to it.

Regards Will

Thanks for the pic Mike! Yep that looks like the one I saw over the weekend, only the scales were a darker color, possibly black. Do you happen to know what the blade steel is? The guy said he thought it was D2 but I think it's probably 1095. Thanks.

Nice pics lambertiana, thanks. I'm really starting to fall for this knife, maybe after I pick it up Saturday I'll post some pics... ;)
