What is the story on Bob Cargill and Cripple Creek knives? No longer in business I assume. Anyone familiar with these? I see pictures of them from time to time, here and there.

Rob, I haven't looked at his website for over a year. In fact, I can't find the URL. It was not maintained back then, and I'd heard that Bob no longer communicated with his old knife friends, and was in bad health. I wish him the best. I too would like to know what's up with him.

Thanks for the link, mckgreg. Cargill sounds like quite a character. I just had to get me one (you guys know how that is). This one was made in '84. Not as pretty as some of those pictures on his web site. Half stops, about 3 1/2 inches, not sure about the blade steel but some kind of stainless I believe. A barlow with just a little curve to it.

Man, I used to live about 1/2 hour from Cripple Creek, CO. (I was in Woodland Park.) Great little mining town at almost 2 miles of elevation. Now they're a casino town.

I need to get one of these just for the blade etching.

That's a beauty Thomason. I love Cripple Creek knives, but I only have a couple. Are you sure the blade isn't high carbon? I thought Bob Cargill mostly worked in carbon steel.

Regards,

Jim

That could very well be right, Jim. The edge was very "toothy" and I have been trying to smooth it out a bit.

Great looking Barlow....and Bob was known for his quality workmanship. This is one you will enjoy for years to come...congratulations !

-regards

Hey Thompson & Gentlemen,

I've got a few more than just several nice (the real deal, that is hand made by the "main MAN"= Mr. Bob Cargill) early, late 70's early '80's Cripple Creek knives....

... But the fact of the matter is, we have a resident expert right here in our very own community. McGreg has the finest authentic CC collection I have ever seen. He is also very knowledgeable about Mr. Cargills accomplishments as all the experts that one could muster.

Perhaps he would share his knowledge with us if we asked him very nicely!??:)

How very true, sunnyd. I did a search of this sub-forum for "Cripple Creek". The pictures of Cargill's work that I found posted by mckgreg put me in a sensory overload spin

I appreciate not only the quality and variety of Greg’s Cargill/Creek collection, but also that he takes the time to make great photos for us to look at.

He’s probably holding a few back on us though. :D
