Are there any substances that I should not let come in contact with titanium? That would react with it?

I'm taking a jewelry class right now and the teacher said if I want to work with Ti I have to be careful because it will plate off onto copper, brass, and sterling silver.

I'm not sure if this answers you question, but I just thought I'd share

Ti is very resistant to corrosion. The only things that I know about that could possibly harm it are halogens (Cl, Fl, Br, I) in their elemental state, and cadmium.

The latter may not be a problem anymore, but SR-71 mechanics were required to use special tools, as the common type were cadmium plated. I am not sure of the alloy which was used in the SR-71; there are a few hundred Ti alloys available. CR uses, of course, 6Al4V (6% Al, 4%V).

There are other things which will adversely affect Ti, such as strong mineral acids, but one is hardly likely to get something of this nature on one's knife.
