Hello,
When people sell their sebenza's I notice potential buyers asking when the birthday for the knife is. Why is that? I understand that it is when the knife was made, but why does it matter? Were knives made during a certain year or month better than others? Personal reasons?(wanting a knife with the same birthday as the owner?) I have heard that microtechs made before they moved the office to PA were a lot better so people want knives dated before 2005 or something like that. What's the dealio?? Can someone shed some light? Throw a guy a bone? Help a brother out? Do unto others as you would have them do unto you? A penny saved is a penny earned? Shave and a hair cut.

Thank you,

Sunny

Sometimes people want specific dates (e.g. dates that are significant like the birth of a daughter/son, their anniversary, etc.).

With each CRK knife , you get a "birth date" or completion date. Most buys/collectors of an "heirloom quality" knife such as a CRK, like to personalize their collection in some way.
Having a special birthdate such as kids birthday or special occasion/year is one way to do that. It adds to the sentimental value for some.

The knives have slight differences over the years. Older ones have no stamp whatsoever, newer ones say "Idaho Made" on them among other small differences. Some people prefer the different blade steels as well. For example if the bday said it was made in 2007 you know it has S30V since S35vn didn't exist back then.

The Umnumzaan also went through changes as well. The original ones did not have lockbar stops and I know some people prefer those.

That makes a lot of sense. I didn't even consider that would be the reason. I was so focused on it having to do with the quality of the knife. Kind of silly I guess considering they make pretty solid knives. Thank you all for shedding some light. :)

Ah.... This was the answer I was expecting! I feel like everyone here is right. Some people ask for specific d/m/y when buying while others seem more interested in only the year.
