CRK box/papers...

Have a line on a used Chris Reeve knife that would come without box and "papers". I'm assuming it's not difficult to get a CRK box of some sort, even a generic shipping for customer service returns? How about "papers"? Are these things that can be replaced (I'd be willing to pay a reasonable amount). I'm also guessing the "birthdate card" wouldn't be doable. But I wondered if they'd be able to provide info as to how old the knife is?

I sent an email to CRK customer service, but I'm sure they're closed for the day, and being as I get a bit impatient, why, I thought I'd ask here....

If you send your knife in to CRK they will give you free box and papers if you request. Also a free wrench.

AWESOME COMPANY

Do you have photos of the knife?

Inside the scale should be a code, the code will tell you when the knife was made... (within a particular quarter of the year)

I couldn't care less about box and papers. I mean really - are you going to carry those along with the knife?

I know some people care about that crap and personally I am happy they do because it gets me deals buying ones that don't have the box and papers that others pass on.

When you send it to CRK they can re-issue a birthcard. The date will be the present date. The box they will give you will not have the model listed on the side. These items are only important to the amount you pay and re-sale value. Buy it, keep it and use it and they aren't needed(at least IMO).

as to the age-this stickie may help you approximate it

They will give you a reissue DOB and papers with a new birthdate. It will state reissue on the card. Along with other free services like sharpening, spa, cleaning...

No box or papers COULD be a red flag for a clone,,,, do you know for a fact it's real?

Couldn't have said it better. Larry

It should be noted that the spa tx and some of the other services aren't free. But well worth the small amount that it will cost you if you want a CRK to look new again.

Umm, yeah me too. I could care less about buying one w/o box and papers.

While admittedly it's hard to make great cuts with a birth card, and the box doesn't fit in your pocket, You'd better be sure you know a real CRK from a clone, or you'll find out what they are worth!

I care about the box and birth card especially if the CRK is a collectible. I don't care about the box and papers if it was my user...

This is just to let other members know why some prefer to buy CRKs with original box and papers... [emoji16]

And if you send a knife in, you're not supposed to send it in the original box with all the papers either, aren't you?

I think it was because they could not guarantee not losing them, if I remember correctly. Bubble wrap in a priority box is what I did I believe.

You should be able to get a reissued card with the date of reissue. It wont say the original date manufactured.

It is really dependent on your intentions with the knife. If it's going to be a heavy user that you don't plan to sell then no box/card isn't a big deal. If it is more of a collector's piece then the box/card is worth quite a bit of money. Personally, I will not buy one for my collection that is missing the box/card or even if it's reissued. If it is going to be a user and it either has no box/card or has a re-issued set, then the price has to be significantly less than the same model with all original documents and box. For every person that doesn't care about the box and card there are just as many, if not more, that care greatly about it.
Also, even if a person thinks they will never sell a knife, in a few years life may change and knives may not be at the top of their list of interests. When they decide to sell, it is almost guaranteed that a missing or reissued set of documents is going to hurt the value.
The best advice I can give is to hang on to everything that came with the knife when it was bought new. The boxes are small and easy to store.

Box and papers only matter to those who collect but there are also exceptions even to that rule. I can't see anyone not wanting to buy a limited addition Sebenza or any LE Chris Reeve because of box and papers, they just will not pay the premium. At the end of the day it's all about how the piece makes you feel.

I bought a user at a great price not too long ago. No box, birthcard or accessories came with it. That didn't stop me from buying it but being a user there were tons of snail trails on the scales, the blade was perfect. I sent it in for a Spa treatment because I wanted a clean slate to put my own snail trails on it. While it was there I requested the box, paperwork and birthcard be reissued, just so I'll have it. I wouldn't have sent it in solely to have a box and paperwork but if it's already there for work it is nice to have.

Now.. does anyone know if you can request a specific date if you send it around the time of that date?
