CRK Buying Habits ???

Hey Guys........Was wondering.........How many of you buy a Sebenza, OR Any CRK for that matter and do tons of research before you buy...OR do you see one you like and buy it on a whim ( Like on the forums or ebay ) ???

Just wondering as I have done both. For some, I looked at the pics and reviews of a CRK before I purchase one. Sometimes I just happen to see one on the forums or ebay and whatnot and just buy it without much thought put into it because it looks "cool".

Just wondering if I am alone.....lol......???

My disposable income dictates my buying habit. The one Sebenza I've purchased was after careful consideration and comparison, mainly because it was intended as a carry and use piece.

Now, if you're asking me if I would like to buy every CRK that catches my eye, then of course that's a different story ;)

Sometimes I'm trying to find a specific one, but then there will be one that completely catches my eye and I will buy based on my emotion. Most likely not a great strategy, but I do enjoy them, and when not, I sell them.

I started out buying knives I wanted to use so I just bought the plain Jane Sebenza, Umnumzaan etc. with out much thought about it at all. I do seem to have somehow ended up with rather more than I need though...... :p

I have never really liked the embellished knives and still don't have any interest in them. Of late I have been picking up vintage knives when and where I can, but there is really nothing I have a thirst for that I felt needed any great research or that I simply must have now. I really have all the knives I need, but I'm now just buying multiples to keep me solvent for the foreseeable future. :)

I never purchased a CRK on impulse - but only because of the price. I research, research, research, buy, use for a while, get bored, sell, research, research, buy again. I'm on my third large Sebenza (sold the first two), my second Umnumzaan (sold the first one) and just sold my Mnandi after carrying it for a while.

I have purchased certain models of Victorinox, Leatherman, Spyderco, Kershaw, Benchmade, etc. on impulse.

If I just bought, retained and used the hobby would lose a lot of appeal for me.

Sometimes impulse, sometimes prior planning. The one thing that is consistent is that I have been unable to avoid tracking down a more or less matching other-sized version of the Sebs I've purchased so far - they always wind up being a pair. $$$

I started out buying impulsively BIG TIME, then quickly realized there were some knives(not CRK's) for whatever reason, didn't feel good in my hand, didn't like locking mechanism etc., so i sold them.

Now i'm much more selective;)

I started out with "just one".
We all know how that works out. This year I've focused on Small Annuals, and found a few P's.
I like the older Regulars, and I'm starting to add them too.

My favorite CRK Folder is the Large Regular, Hands Down. I have never been a fan of the 21 because of the blade shape, but I again have one on the way ( large 21 "eyes" with double lugs, all silver ), and am always looking for a large classic as there is something special about that word classic engraved in the side. I have a small classic and have been edcing it.

I am always looking for a "P" sebenza, but hate to pay they $700-$800 the going rate.

I would love a just plain jane old regular sebenza with a stainless damascus blade. The ones I have seen are always pimped and dont want one someone played with.

I would also love a large regular annual in any wood.

I just love the regular design overall :)

I've only done enough research to know I wanted a Sebenza and Mnandi. After that, it was just a matter of something catching my eye and being available.
