CRK clip insert & slip sheath, my thoughts.

As the title says , got these two in the mail today.

Now, I think the pocketclip is very well made, maybe the best in the knife business, bit I still don't care for pocketclips. They make the knife visible and will eventually ruin your clothes if you keep the knife clipped at the same place, pulling it out/putting it back over a substantial period of time. For me, I feel the slip sheath is the way to go and I'll try it out and see how we get along. I've also ordered a horizontal/vertical belt sheath from RMB Custom Leather, which I hope will turn out nice. This one: http://www.rmbcl.com/leather-case-small-horizontal-vertical-carry-case22/

Clip insert:

Disappointed! Main reason; it's WAY more light in colour than the slabs of my knife! I believed it would be the exact same kind of grey.. Ok, I guess I could live with that was my initial thoughts. But when I noticed the head of the screw, holding the insert down, and how far out it sticks relative to the other 3 countersunk screws, I really started to question the whole deal. I know it's the same screw that sits on the clip, but with the clip gone it's a big wart on the side profile of the lockside scale. It's also very easy to notice through the slip sheath leather. In a perfect world, the insert should have been the same colour as the slabs and the screw should be countersunk into the insert and have the same headsize as the other 3 screws on the knife... Now THAT would be perfection! I'm leaving the knife clip- and insert free for now.

Slip sheath:

Great!! I love it! Very nice leather, perfect fit and very very well made. I decided to use this out of 3 reaons; 1 - I want to protect my front jeans pocket against the titanium slabs, I believe they will wear it out if the knife stays in there every day. 2 - It protects my knife from pocket lint, not such a big deal but nevetheless. 3 - The sheath will keep the knife more in one place, without it it would spinn aroud and make me have to adjust the way it sits in my pocket more often.

A tip to make the sheath mould very fast around your knife: Keep the sheathed knife in your back jeans pocket for a whole evening sitting in a couch or in your computer chair. The heat & pressure from your bum will get the job done!

I've got in the habit of carrying my small iwb at about the one o'clock position. I like your pouch, like the brown leather. Never have taken the clip off any of mine so I can't comment on that. Enjoy your weekend

How is the fit with the clip still on the handle? Too tight or just right?

I like the idea of the leather sheath but would probably leave the clip in place.

Thanks. --Larry

I've not tried yet, as my preferred set up of the knife is clipless. But I know a lot of people using the sheath with the clip no problem. The leather will fit itself to the knife regardless.

Also, I put the clip insert back, just looks better than the recess with the hole in it.

My insert fits great.

I noticed the color also. What I found is the knife had oil on the slabs (skin oil I guess). After I rubbed the insert between my fingers a minute and got it all skin oiled up (yeah, kinda nasty sounding ain't it), it matches perfectly.

I carry my small clippless with insert in pocket and my large clipped on. Mnandi is carried clippless also.

Personally I like mine clippless for the most part. (I have been trying my Zaan with the clip.) I do use the inserts but will be the first to admit that they have minimal, if any functionality. I have polished the insert on one of my polished titanium Sebs and it does look good.

I will have to try applying some sort of oil (skin or other - LOL) to mine to see if it darkens them - thanks for the insight!

Do you fellers that are carrying your Seb clipless, without the slip cover, ever find that other items in your pocket are finding their way into your open frame knife, or are you only carrying your Seb in that pocket.

For that reason I normally prefer a SAK, or other type of slippie, maybe small lockback in my pocket. Larger knife clipped. The use of a slip cover idea doesn't appeal to me.

Just curious.

Here you can see the colour mismatch. But I believe they will match up more & more over time. Still looks better than without.

I have 7 CRKs and three slip pouches. I rotate the knives and all of them still have their clips on. I do orient all of them so the clip side of the knife goes in the pouch with the clip side facing the "Chris Reeve" stamped side of the pouch and they all fit great.

I often use the pouches just to slow down snail trails. I bought two of the inserts and have never used them, probably should put them on the exchange.

When I carry clipless, the knife is the only thing in the pocket. Same is actually true with clip, but the pocket might not be the same.
