What qualities make the damascus knives worthwhile in your opinion? Apart from good looks, does the steel have other attributes that you enjoy? I'm asking because I struggle to carry mine in a world where magnacut is a thing. On the other hand, I don't have a strong desire to let it go. Thoughts?

I don’t have one to carry but just gifted a lefty to my son who it pretty thrilled. I’ve been wanting one for a long time. Here is why…it’s almost purely aesthetic plus easy to sharpen. It’s not going to perform in heavy use like MagnaCut, but for me it’s just edc tasks, work around the house and yard, sometimes in the woods. I don’t mind sharpening, I kind of enjoy it, but I am not excellent at it. The fact that is sharpens up easily is a big plus for me. I like SAK blades because I can usually get all the work I need out of them and I don’t mind putting a fresh edge on them.

The enjoyment I get out of a sebenza is not because I push its limits, it’s tactile, aesthetic and all the capability I need. For me, raindrop Damascus adds a little extra to the enjoyment.

I'm purely for aesthetics as well. I've always been interested in the damascus sebenza, but have never sprung for one. But for me, the damascus mnandi is the perfect modern gentlemans knife. I carry it pretty often, and it does get used.
