Does anyone know at what point in time CRK started using the "Date Codes" that are found on the inside of the handle's? Just wondering, if this has be asked before please provide me with a link to the thread. Thanks everybody!!

It is on the inside of the scale. If you get a flashlight, you can see it without having to take it apart.

Thanks for the response Padad, but I wondering when they started using the code. I do not believe the early knives had them but I may be wrong. Thanks!!

Thanks sk8n!! but I'm thinking a little later than that... I am only going by what I have at hand and would like to hear from others with much more experience than I. This is what I have to draw from:
1. Late Large P Sebenza Birthdate 9-96 no code.
2. Large Regular Sebenza Birthdate 9-98 no code.
3. Small Sebenza "Decorated" Birthdate 7-1999 code B 98 (I would assume because it is a "Decorated" birthdate and code are far off)
4. Umfaan 7-98 no code.
5. Umfaan 6-2000 no code. (did the Umfaan's not have the code?)
6. Small Regular (my EDC) No Birth card B 98
Again thanks to all for any and all information and for reading my boring posts.

My understanding is that they started date coding sometime during 1997. Since you have two with 1998 date codes, that would indicate date codes were in use in 1998. It's possible that your 1998 large was assembled with scales manufactured during 1997 before they started stamping the scales. Not sure about your 2000 Umfaan, don't know much about them and have never owned one.

Thanks again sk8n!! Looks like you and I are the only ones interested in this subject... Anyway, I greatly appreciate any and all comments and information. As for me, I am more of a collector than a user of these fine knives although I do carry my Small Regular everyday. I came late to the game so I am probably asking a lot of questions that have already been answered and for that I sincerely apologize.

The usual question regarding date codes is what do they mean. Your question regarding when they went were implemented, is not a common one.
Besides, it never bothers me to answer a question.

Thanks nyefmaker!! Very interesting reading! Some great information. One of the things that keeps me so intrested in CRK besides the Quality of the knives is the different variations and changes that have taken place over the year's. It makes collecting them all the more fun, especially since we can share our little pieces of CRK history with other like minded people here on the forum. And again many thanks to you as well sk8n!!

Check out my CRK timeline, its in there....!

I have a 95 with no date and a 1998 with a 98 stamp. I posted a little while back about my 2011 annual, which has no date! I have confirmed with two other owners that theirs are date-less too. Not all of my knives have matching dates on the scales either.

I have owned a 97' sebenza without a date, have owned 98' and 99' with dates. I emailed CRK awhile back about this and was told sometime in mid 97 they changed I believe. Dated scales not matching is very common also. I have seen them as much as a year apart brand new, so it doesnt mean they were tampered with. As for the annuals, I have only owned 2 and they both have a date. Though in different places.
