Recently bought a small insingo plain last week and took it apart today to clean/lube. It seemed a little "dry" lube wise so I figured I'd break her down and clean/lube her nicely.

I noticed both slabs were marked D15 but the birth card that came with it reads March 24, 2016.

Is it common for the dates to be off a bit like this? I know D15 would be end quarter of 2015 so its close to March.

Common?

Not uncommon. Slabs are made (sometimes several months) before final assembly. I have a small 21 with C11 slabs with a May '12 birthday.

That isn't much. The scales are made in batches and used until they need another batch. Yours were made somewhere in the last 1/4 of 2015.

It happens with knives made near the start of the year, and stamped scales that where made late at the end of the prior year....

This is a very common occurrence, as others here have said. It is also not uncommon for the scales to have different date stamps, being that they are made in separate batches.

The date on the scales is when the scales were made. The date on the BD Card is when the knife was completed. Can be a year apart at times. No worries.
