The latest Umnumzaan features this design.
Does anyone know how this differs from the Hinderer LockStop? Is it machined one piece with the titanium?
Was it licensed from Hinderer?

This is the first I'm seeing of this. I'm just not a fan of the Umnumzaan though. Are there any plans to use the lock stop on future Sebenzas?

If you read the responses of Chris Reeve by the sound of it no.

People were screwing around with the Umnumzaan's lock (because they wanted early lockup IMO). The Umnumzaan has a different lock then just the plain old Ti against Steel interface and it seems people were to ignorent to educate themselves about this.

CRK indroduced the lock stop to prevent people from messing with the lock. Don't think it will be introduced on the Sebenza.

So in short, thanks to those that were playing Mr Handy man we now have the disk.
 
Some people should not be allowed to touch, much less purchase fine cutlery. They should be given a battery of tests to prove literacy, reading comprehension, and common sense before any purchasing is done... :thumbdn:

You mean people were bending the lock arm out, trying to get early lockup?!? Wow, if that is the case and it must be as the lock stop would prevent that now, then yes, some folks do need to read a bit more and learn the mechanics behind the different locks before trying to "improve" them.

I'm pretty sure CR said they were mostly being bent out because people were having trouble understanding the right technique to opening it and thought, as a result, that the lock bar was putting too much pressure on the blade--hence bending it out would 'fix' the 'issue'--but there was probably some of what Martinius said.

I have no problem with people doing what they want to things they own. That's their right, and it doesn't affect me. Go take a hammer to it if you want. But, if you do, you shouldn't expect the warranty to hold if as a result of your modifications it doesn't work properly. CR will fix their knives under warranty even when they believe the damage is from user error. I don't like the disk (though the redesign looks better), but I'll certainly take it over them changing the warranty if those are the two options to combat this situation.

As Anne Reeve explained, CRK was caught in the position of either having to tell owners who'd hyper-extended the lockbar trying to "tweak" the knife that they were lying when they said they hadn't modified the knife, or adopting a design change that would make it much harder to damage the knife by "tweaking" it. It's unfortunate that they had to do this but also very understandable.
