CRK Edge vs Randall Edge

A frind of mine was looking at my new Sebenza. He collects Randalls. He said Bo Randall would not have approved of the sharpening method used by Chris Reeve. I did not want to display my ignorance so I did not ask the obvious question, but I will ask it here. What is the difference and what are the pros and cons.

To me it's kind of a silly comment for your friend to make (no disrespect). If you're not going to use the knife (i.e. solely for collection) who cares how it's sharpened. If you are going to use it then you're going to sharpen it yourself eventually and do away with the original edge. Besides that, just because one guy has a certain way of sharpening, it doesn't mean that it's the best way. Everyone's entitled to their opinions. I own Randalls and CRK's and they both cut just fine with their factory edges (actually CRK's cut better than some of my Randalls) Sharp is sharp. Who cares how you get there. If it's an aesthetics thing, everyone will have their own opinion on that too.

Good question. I guess I'm no less ignorant than you :D

He's probably BSing about something he read in a magazine, I will agree that stock CRK edges leave something to be desired, but probably not in the manner he meant it.

Recently, someone posted on why Chris Reeve uses the hollow grind on his knives. Chris's explanation made a whole bunch of sense to me. There is still too much tit-for-tat going on regarding sharpness. Although there's nothing wrong with too much tit.
