It seems sales are not so brisk there right now. I see some knives are hanging around a while.
Thinking of selling one, but not in a "bad" market.
What do you think?

Many knives sit unsold because of premium asks on products easily obtainable elsewhere. If you want to offer a deal on a knife or a fair price to both you and the seller, or if you have something interesting, I think the market will accommodate. What you are witnessing now is a correction if it can be described as anything at all. Perhaps normal variation.

In any case, it is free to sell here. Go for it.

It depends on what you're selling. If it's something that has been seen lately, I would wait. If it's an annual, old school mammoth mnandi, or a small lignum classic, I bet it would be snapped up quickly.

I think part of the problem is that there have been quite a few cool pieces released over the last 6 months or so - both in desirable CRK, as well as outside brands like Shigo. Lots of stuff to spend money on and people did...

It seems to be a cycle, I've noticed that different sellers offering the same knife or close to it are the ones hanging around. The first listing goes fairly quick, but the others hang around. I don't think there's a pattern, just pricing that buyers are looking for.

I agree... well priced items sell, dreamers get to keep the dream alive.

I think the expansion of the pocket knife market is slowing. It kinda reached its peak last year I reckon, when the last person who might want to buy an expensive or cool pocket knife finally got the internet.

The way I see it, the million or so people worldwide who might buy a quality modern pocket knife, be it a Spyderco, a Cold Steel, or a Chris Reeve, have now become aware of this craze and have now bought one. When the "fad" or "trend" for pocket knives was getting going, top-end makers like CRK, Hinderer, and Strider, were essentially "in the right place at the right time". Being first, there will always be a market for their products, if they keep their quality high, because owning one of their knives is almost a rite of passage in the knife community. At the same time, the market is now awash in knives that are perhaps equal to CRK in quality, design, and materials, so there are many, many more options. The days when the Sebenza was the only "grail" on many people's list is largely over, and with that, the value of normal, basic used CRK knives on the exchange has likely decreased accordingly. I think the market for early or rare CRK pieces is probably stronger than ever, but the days when you "buy a Sebenza, check it out for a while, and sell it for $10 less than you paid for it" are no more.

Having said all this, I do not see pocket knives going the way of Fidget spinners (just die already) or custom pocket tops (really?).

At the end of the day a knife is a tool, and once you get used to carrying one, it's hard to be without. CRK makes a damn fine knife, and it is a pleasure to carry one, but viewed as an investment, the future is not certain.

My thoughts only.

I wouldn't be worried about trying to sell your knife. If you have an asking price your comfortable with, list it. You don't have to sell it. You don't have to take a lower offer. If it doesn't sell, no biggie. There are cycles in the buying/selling market as has been mentioned here. If it is something really standard, price will suffer a bit. If it is more desirable you'll get more. I guess this is kinda Captain Obvious.

I think it varies by time of year also. Seems to pick up and slow down cyclically. I am guessing people are broke from summer vacations and other activities. Seems to pick up before and after Christmas all the way through tax return season.

Everyone is looking for a bargain. Nothing new, just more visible in a dedicated forum.

This. If you want to sell, list it. If the market is soft on your item and you don't want to adjust it then it won't sell. The result is the same. I don't know what you want to sell but just in the short time I've been buying CRKs (~9 months) I feel like I have seen prices on certain models increase quickly and then get soft whereas others seem to always be around the same range. Give it a shot.

As other have more or less said: List it. You don't have to accept any offers you don't want and if it doesn't sell, you can list it at a later time. You do have to wait two weeks before relisting the same item on BF.

I've had several CRKs sell in the 2nd week of the listing. I also sold one (or maybe two) CRKs after relisting.

Being a "Buyer" rather than a "Seller", I see great deals (usually snatched up in a flash), decent deals (if that is what you are looking for) and prices that are close to, equal or higher than you can purchase new from a dealer. I've bought a few, but most of those offered just don't interest me or are not a good enough value.

+1 on previous replies. As well, myself and others here prefer used/EDC'd CRK's and are always looking on BST for another CRK. New or used, post it. You might be pleasantly surprised. :)

So, what ya thinking about selling???? Just curious. Not soliciting or anything of the kind.

I can tell you that my buying has slowed a lot lately because of several knives I've received that have been in much worse condition than described; blade play, significant edge damage, etc. In almost every case the seller said something along the lines of "it has been stored for a while and I didn't really look at it before posting".

My point is, examine your knife through the eyes of a buyer. Offer an honest, detailed description and good clear photos in the listing. Anymore, I fly right past listings without those, especially at CRK prices.
