What's everyone's thoughts on the leather sheath CRK makes? I almost pulled the trigger on one but changed my mind at the last minute. It says they fits small & large Sebenzas, and Umnumzaan. Can anyone comment on how each of these knives fit in the sheath? Do you need to remove the clips? How about color...black or brown?

I just don't hear much about them and was just wondering if anyone had any feedback. Thanks!

They make two sizes large will fit the large regular,21,Zann, 25 the small for the small and mnandi. You can leave the clip on or take it off. I leave mine on and after awhile the sheath form fits the knife nicely. I like them but it seems alt of people just save them and never use em.

Thanks for th feedback. I have one of those pouches that cam with my small unique but like you mentiond I never use it. The sheath I'm thinking about buying is the larger one with the button clasp. Any experience with that one?

I love the one that is supplied. I have thought of buying the button one also but need to hear reviews from other people.

I made one for my 21 out of latigo leather, very simple folding design. Keeps lint and gunk out of the pivot area, and offers some protection against loosened screws (although I haven't lost any since I secured them with LocTite.)

I just ordered one yesterday. I've been using my 25 when hiking and camping a lot this summer and while I'm not really a sheath user, it's going to be nice not to have lightweight hiking pants shredded by using the pocket clip.

I cant stand using pocket clips... I must be strange but the leather pouch is perfect.

Yeah it takes more time to retrieve buy I am not bothered by it.

To each there own. I use my knife too much to be retrieving it out of a sheath. Plus when I need it I need it, with one hand retrieval :) I guess that is something that you have to keep on mind if you are going to use the pocket clip or sheath.

The CGG Sebbies come with the sheath. I didn't remove the clips, and it's brown. But I like my DIY sheath better.

Just ignore the poor quality...;)

I carried a small Seb for a month or so in a leather sheath. Small enough knife to be super comfy in a pocket, if you didn't want to use a clip (clip was still on in the sheath, no problems). Think I prefer clips, but it was a good experience.

I usually keep my knives clipped, but if I am wearing dress pants I will put the knife/case in my inner coin pocket. For me, since the case is somewhat slick so I worry about it sliding out if I don't have the inner pocket to put it in.
The cases supplied are nice, as mentioned above they form to the knife nicely. I also have an Arne mason slipcase that I use sometimes.

Hey Ashell, what did you use to sew that up with? I have a few speedy stitchers, but if you know a better way I'm listening. :)

My Sebbie lost in a sea of leather!

I know nothing of leather work, what needs to be done to form the leather over the knife like that? Steam? Pressure? Love the sheath with the holder for the allen wrench!

Ahh yes, I actually have one and use it quite often, the large fits great in it the small is a little deep, it's hard to get ou without the use of a lanyard, which is ok by me. Their is no need to remove the pocket clip on either the lg. or small, they fit fine with it on.

Eta: it took me all of a day to loose the snap, cover for the bottom snap when I had a large sebbie in the sheath and the bottom snap has received a little damage from bumping into things and rolling around on cement while fixing cars. I have the black one and it has held up Very well. I will buy another when this one wears out.

Using vegetable tanned leather, submerse your piece in clear tap water for about 20 seconds. You'll see bubbles as the water penetrates the leather. Some say to leave it until that stops, leave it submerged for a long time etc... That's nonsense. A few seconds is plenty. Then take it out, let the excess drip off, then simply fit by hand or use a smooth, clean and rounded tool of some sort to aid in forming the leather. If you use your fingertips be sure that your nails are trimmed. Then just let it dry and it'll hold its shape.

One thing... With a Sebenza it's not a problem, but with a knife (or whatever) that is not made of stainless steel, first wrap it securely with static cling wrap/SaranWrap otherwise you risk corrosion from the wet leather.

:)

Maybe I am missing something in this thread but when I read "It says they fits small & large Sebenzas, and Umnumzaan." in the original post I thought about this leather sheath:

It is one design with multiple uses.

Here are my sheaths I use:

My sheath when I am on the farm or hunting (jogging running with gear and straps through bush can be dangerous to a knife clipped and you dont have a lanyard tying it to your clothes):

My sheath for carrying around in urban areas. Inside my pants with the clip of the sheath going underneath my belt so its more discreet. Since this would rub against my skin I went with softer leather.

I prefer a sheath as I tend to bump into things a lot, especially things at my pockets height (I am tall and sometimes clumsy) so carrying in sheath prevents me from damaging the clip or say something delicate I bump into that can scratch.

Also I have had knives catch on my chair and bent the pocket clips badly so I try and avoid that from hapening.

O and here was my old Small Regular in my first sheath I made for a knife.

IMO the Sheath that CRK produces for the Sebenza is an outstanding piece and I would not hesitate to buy one if they were available locally.
