CRK Neil Roberts Warrior for Bush?

A close friend who lives a zillion miles away sent me a Christmas card in the mail with a picture of a Chris Reeves Neil Roberts Warrior blade. My friend just happens to own a knife retail shop.

Anyway, he is shipping me a new Neil Roberts Warrior for Christmas. I'll get it sometime early January just in time for our "Waist Deep in Snow Survivial Class."

I plan on taking this knife into the bush. I'm curious if anyone has one, uses it in the bush and how it performs with routine and sundry bushcraft chores from chopping, batonning, whittling, carving, shaping, and cooking?

Experiences or thoughts?

at least it's not one ofthe all steel CRKs. not suggesting here's anything "wriong" with them, but the round , steel handles don't seem like they'd be the best for bushcrafting.

s30V is supposed to be good steel. don't know i don't have anything in it, so i haven't been able to play with it yet.

but i'm not seeing any reason why you couldn't use that knife for bshcrafting. the shape might not be ideal for drilling, but not so bad you won't be able to do it.

you've got a great friend. i wish my buddys would get me stuff like that!

report back after the class and let us know how it performs.

At that size, it's more of a camp knife than a bushcraft knife, better at chopping, batonning, and cooking than at whittling, carving, and shaping. But it will get the job done. You might bring along a Mora for some fine work.

My all-time favorite fixed blade is the One-piece Sable III, the 4" straight-backed blade. Any knife that works so well in the kitchen will make a great bushcrafter. In fact, going by the blade shape, I think of it as my CRK puukko.

Fixer, isn't this one of the knives CRK was donating a portion of the proceeds to a charity or something about there were only a certain amount of them to be made for sale to the public?? I could be wrong but I thought I had read something to that effect a couple of years ago. Thanks for your help.
Be safe.

Some time ago there was a passaround for the Green Beret model, which appears very similar.
In a nutshell: hollow grind, neutral balance, cuts well on thin materials, chops very poorly and binds on anything thicker than the grind is deep, extremely high quality of construction/fit n finish, very strong, great tip penetration. More of a general utility knife that can do some prying and stabbing than one for chopping, splitting, or shaping wood.
It's a very nice knife, but not very well-suited to anything I'd use a knife outdoors for, and much prefer something with a flat or convex grind. I also love S30V, but have always kept blade length 4.5" or less. It's tough for a relatively high hardness, carbide rich stainless steel, but not compared to the simple carbon steels at the same hardness or higher.
Not bad for a soldier's "combat" knife. Not one I'd carry in the woods, though.

I took a Neil Roberts in trade a while back and sold it not long after - I could never warm up to the handle. It's a nice knife and certainly well made but I'd agree with the others that it's not really the optimum blade for 'bushcraft'.

From the CRK website:
A numbered edition of 184 knives is reserved for the Navy SEAL community - Neil Roberts graduated from Class #184. (Members of the SEAL community can contact Steven Bronson at ChiefBronson@aol.com for ordering details.)
Un-numbered but otherwise identical, the Neil Roberts Warrior Knife is now available for users and collectors. The engraving on each knife reads "Neil Roberts BUD/S Class 184" - for the uninitiated BUD/S stands for Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL.
A trust fund at the Navy Federal Credit Union has been established to support the education of Neil Robert's son, Nathan. The price of each knife includes a $20 contribution to this fund.

Try it out and see how YOU like it. That's quite the gesture made by your friend. Congrats on the cool knife!

there are 2 main knives I collect and use Chris Reeve and Randall Made... for bushcraft for Chris reeve I use the new Nyala its one of my favorite knives. and for the Randall Made I use the new 28 outdoorsmen.
