Hiya CRK folks

This is my first time posting here and I don't usually keep myself up to date on the goings on of Chris Reeve Knives, so I figured it's best to ask you folks! I stumbled upon the Dustin Turpin Logic yesterday and it got me thinking - has there ever been a CRK flipper? Or perhaps plans for one? Because that's something I'd see myself buying. The gorgeous simplicity of the Logic really reminded me of what I love about, for example, the Mnandi, but with the addition of a flipper!

I'd love to hear your guys' thoughts on the matter :)

Thanks!

No, you wouldn't like to hear my thoughts on the matter. :p I'm not a big fan of flippers and I doubt we will see anything like that from CRK any time soon if at all. One should of course never say never though.

Until yesterday, actually, flippers would generally make me cringe away from the knife. Some of the flipper I've seen almost look to have an entire finger protruding from the handle when closed.

I really like the subtlety of that one, however, and it struck me that it might be something that would suit a CRK knife.

And of course I would like to hear your thoughts on the matter! What would be the point of a forum if everyone agreed with one another? ;)

no point behind a flipper. especially on a simple knife like a sebenza. x2 for a gentleman's folder like the mnandi. no way i would ever even consider buying a flipper sebenza. and they just get in the way when reaching into the same pocket the knife is in

That is actually a nice clean looking knife, it has something Protech TR3 ish about it.

As for my opinion, I seem to have trouble putting across an opposing point of view with out being a dick, so I have been told.:p Something like the Umnumzaan could be redesigned to a flipper very easily with it having a thumbstud stop pin. While CRK could easily make a flipper I would like I just don't like the whole flipping of knives and see it as quite un needed when one has to deploy a knife. I know the merits of the design and I know why people like them but I just don't fly that way. :)

From what CR has said in the past, I don't think he will be one:
--There won't be a Spyderhole because it makes the knife less compact, and so does a flipper.
--He won't build a slipjoint because he's only interested in coming out with new things, and flippers aren't.

..but as Haze said, never say never.

I personally can't stand to see a flipper. I've passed on many knives that appeal to me just because it was a flipper. I don't flick open any of my knives because I hate to see the blade SLAM against the stop pin. Every time you do that you are putting a lot of force on the components of the knife. Most well made knives can handle it, but over time, even the knives with the highest tolerances (CRK, customs) will give in to those forces, and you may see blade play or lock failure. I just have a problem with flippers because it seems to me that you are building knife abuse into the design of the knife. But that's just me. Plenty of people love flippers, and good for them. But I'll stay away, and wouldn't like to see a CRK flipper.

That is an attractive flipper, I have never wanted one, but that does look good:thumbup:

If CRK were to ever come out with one I think a variation of the Umnumzaan would be best suited for it. Or perhaps an Umnumzaan with the blade profile of the Insigno only thicker and with a flipper?

Here are comparison shots of a large Sebenza 21 and the Logic flipper. Both knives are well designed and in my opinion bore what integral framelock folder and flipper knives should be.

Blade length: Sebenza is 3.65". Logic is 3.5"

Logic flipper has a thicker blade stock compared to a Sebenza. Making the Sebenza a better slicer imo.

The Logic flipper incorporates an internal stop pin and a GTC bearing pivot.

Solid lock up for both knives.

Dustin hand grinds each blade for the Logic flipper.

Perfect blade centering for both knives
DSC_0658.jpg

Both knives are easy to edc.

Standoffs and spacers ano'd in blue for the Sebenza and light green for the Logic. Really liking the lanyard attachment for the Logic.
