So I just got my first Sebenza (large regular). I'm its 2nd owner, and I like the knife so far. I do have one question: the lockup is about 90%, and the previous owner told me that was normal. He owns another 8 of them, showed me one other and it too had the same degree of lockup.
Now I own a LOT of folders, several framelock ones, and none of them are over 50% or so.
Is this usual for a Sebenza or what? Any info would be appreciated.

As long the locktab isn't touching the opposite side and the lock-up is solid, you should be fine. The Sebenzas I've handled have been between 50-80% range with no issues.

Don't forget that if it bothers you too much or if it does develop any bladeplay, CR will fix it for you, free and forever. Their warranty and service are two of the main reasons I keep coming back to CR's knives. And they fact that they are amazing blades!

Yeah, I know this. It's a comforting feeling, and the knife does not have any issues at all, and doesn't look like it's about to develop any.

Was just wondering, that's all. I love the design and feel of the Sebenza, and the lockup is the most solid I've ever felt on any folder. So far, so good.

Check the sticky at the top of this section "Unofficial FAQ" - it will address the Reeve philosophy on lock-up and what they try to achieve.

Mine locks up at 50% - and I bought it new.

My son has a Mnandi, and I have an ollllld small Seb, that are both pretty "deep" by normal standards. It took a little while to get comfortable with this, but the truth is (I believe) that geometry, tolerances and materials are better/different in the CRK knives than those found even in other, similar, high quality knives. Rest easy. I will tell you that as between the 15% I see in some of my other framelock and linerlock knives and 70-90%, I know which I'd rather be using!!!

I have two Sebenzas what I bought new and both of them around 70-80%
here is one of them next to Spyderco MILI.

Thx a lot for this picture. Mine has the lock almost touching the other side of the frame. I will post a picture tonite when I'm at home.

One thing that I've done is to send some pictures to the CR office. They can help you determine if the knife is out of spec. Sounds like it might be. If it is, they will definitely step up and fix the problem.

I just looked at my collection (BNIB) and they certainly vary. But only one goes beyond 70%. The blade feels as locked on that one as the others.

I'm willing to bet that it would take a lot of use before you would get enough wear in that area for it to be a problem.
