So there is a similiar thread going on in the Spydie forums with the theme of "which spydercos have you seen on film?" It got me thinking......how come I haven't seen a Sebenza or Umnumzaan pop up now and then in a movie flick? Are they too expensive of a "prop" to be used on sets for fear they may end up lost or missing the next day :D?

So the question is to fellow CRK enthusiasts, Have you seen any make their film debuts and if so, what movies come to mind?

So.....now that the Large Sebenza has become the terrorist "knife of choice"........I suppose the Large Sebenza will be next for the "ban everything" crowd to howl about.

We are doomed. :D

Stock up now while you still can.......

It doesn't make a whole lot of sense for a knife like a Sebenza to be used in movies. Not at all because of the value, but in a way the cost just isn't worth it. You see close ups of watches and knives where it's obvious what brand it is because of paid advertising. I find it unlikely Chris would ever consider such a thing. This is also discounting the fact that sebenzas most certainly do not need any advertising at all.

I actually looked this up the other day in the height of my waiting on mine to arrive frenzy. Collateral and 24 are the two that always come up, and seem to be the only examples. It looks like (or at least from what previous posts around here seem to have indicated) that both were from a knife guy being involved somewhere in the process. Apparently in collateral it wasn't left up to the prop department- sebenza or sebenza like was written into the script explicitly. And with 24, most of us who are fans of either the show, knives or both have heard that Kiefer Sutherland is a knife fan and collector and likely suggested it. It seems about the only way you should expect to see any more of them around is if someone with some degree of control turns out to be a Chris Reeve fan.

It makes sense in a well-written movie for the significant characters to be fleshed out accurately, driving the type of car they would drive, wearing the type of watch they would wear, etc. I think it speaks to the quality of the writing that Cruise's character would use a Sebenza.

I had a friend who was working on a screenplay about 30-odd years ago with a wealthy, sophisticated character. She wrote a passage about him picking up his Cross pen, because that was what she had been exposed to as a high-quality pen back then. I suggested to her that Cross was nice, but not unique or expensive enough for her character to carry. She changed it to a Waterman, I think.
