CRK or a dealer.

Being new to these forums, it took a while for me to decide on what knife to get next. There are so many toys, I mean tools, to choose from. I'm finally convinced. I'm going to order a large plain Sebenza. I was fine with what I have carried for the last few years, but after reading so much, I found some shortcomings with the knife that I have.

I would like to know if there are any pros and cons between buying direct from CRK or going to a dealer? I'm thinking mostly of a waiting period.

Also, has anyone had any experience dressing/skinning game with the Sebenza? It may not be the best choice, but it looks like it could get the job done.

I think I'm addicted.

The Sebenza is a gteat knife. If you buy from a dealer you will get the knife quicker and for the plain models there is no difference in price. I personally prefer the small because it is easier for a daily carry. I don't hunt so I can't give an opinion on how it will dress out a deer. I did read a post under the thread, Sebenza, large or small? and one guy said he dressed out a deer with the small Sebenza but felt the large would have been a better choice. I think it would be safe to say that the large Sebenza would dress out a bear with no problem. You can't go wrong, dealer vs. CRK, but I think that you get it quicker through a dealer. One advantage that odering through CRK is that you can send them some money each month so that when your knife is ready it will be paid off. I am unfortunately left handed so most of my orders are from CRK and I have used this method for two of my Sebenzas (wood inlay and CGG trailing moon, both small) it works well for me because I don't have to use the credit card or deplete my savings and I don't have the option of getting one from a dealer because the left hand market is a small one. If money is not the issue, get it from a dealer. But be warned, you will be buying many more. Sebenzas are like a drug, one little taste and all you will think of is more, more, more oh maybe just one more will make me happy. Welcome to the club. I'm Scott and I'm a Sebenzaholic.

Welcome to the forum Jay. I have to agree with scottdog you would more than likely get the seb faster from a dealer. When i was shopping or my small plain i was checking out the CRK website and found even the plain models were backordered several months. I was then lucky enough to locate a dealer that had them in stock. I also am not a hunter so i am sorry i can not give you any insight on that matter. No matter what you get you will be thrilled. And that one will make you want another, i am thinking of a inlay now.

Thanks for your help guys. I know that this won't be the last. Maybe a nice fixed blade next time.

JayHawk,

ScottDog was refering to me when mentioning gutting a deer. Last year my wife shot a small doe that I gutted in the field for her. Not that she couldn't have done it herself, just that it was extremely cold. Anyhow, I used my small decorated sebbie to do the job. And although I accomplished the task relatively easy, I felt that to make things easier a large one would have been better. I do now carry a large wood inlay sebbie. That is, I use to... My wife swapped it and I'm just today getting my new classic 2000 sebenza in the mail. This October I hope to try it out on a buck. We'll see. I will post a tread when I do it. Go for the large sebenza. It really is an all around perfect pocket folder!

Thanks K-guy for your response. I have ordered a plain large, so hopefully I will also be able to try it out this year.

ScottDog, I an so jealous of you and all your Sebenzas. A wood inlay model is next on my Sebenza list.

Don't be too jealous of my Sebenzas, they are on order and I should receive them middle to late August. I haven't laid eyes on them yet. I will post in this forum the day I get them.
