I have a small and large sebenza and would like to carry them in a belt sheath.

I can't find any reviews of them so are there any crk sebenza sheath users over here.

I found some pics that the sheath can be carried vertical and horizontal.
A big bonus is that you can put in the small or the large.

What do you think about these sheaths.
I would like to carry mine horizontal and my small will be the one with the most carry time.

So opinions and pics are welcome;).

I carry my large Sebenza & my Umnunzaan in a black CRK sheath on my right side alternating days. I also carry a small Sebenza in my left front pocket in a CRK calfskin pouch. I like the calfskin pouch better for the small Sebenza because I then can carry it in my left front pocket and don't have to were two sheath's and look like I'm head of the "Geek Squad"
I remove all pocket clips and install clip inserts on all my Sebenza's & Umnunzaan's. My lanyard is hanging out the rear of the sheath and I unsnap the sheath & pull the knife out by the lanyard in one fast motion because the blade is facing forward in the sheath & by the time it gets to the front of me its open & locked ready to go. That's my 2 cent's worth.

I love the older style Sebenza sheath. I do carry in the sheath from time to time. Great sheath and high quality just like the knife that rides in it:D

I like the CRK leather sheath very much. And YES, you CAN carry either a small or a large Sebenza in it.

I had one made for my small Sebenza awhile ago by Vess Leatherworks and love it. Its held up very nicely.

I personally love the CRK sebenza sheath. It fits the small sebenza and large sebenza nicely. It will also fit the umnumzaan, a little more snug, but it fits. ( the only part that makes it snug on the zaan is the glass breaker ). I have the light tan one. I will post a pic of mine below. I like the fact that they give you an extra snap face, so when your carrying the large sebbie, you put that snap face on the bottom and it looks better. Carrying the small sebbie, you just move that snap face to he top snap for safe keeing and use the lower snap. I have carried mine vertically AND horizontally and it carried beautifully. I still prefer the verticle carry , but its one of the rare sheaths that has both options. Plus, you only have to buy One sheath to carry Two different sizes of knives, so thats great as well. Its a very well thought out design, just like you would expect from CRK. If you want my opinion, I Highly Recommend It :thumbup:

Gary did very nice work...i think he retired (not sure).

Thanks Rick and BigMark, not retired yet, just gettin' older :),
but right now on a winter break and will pick back up next month.

The CRK sheaths are really nice though, well thought out, as you would
expect from something that Chris Reeve would put his mark on.

The limiting factor is the belt width for the horizontal position I think, so
if you wear a 1" wide belt, you'll probably be fine with that.

Vess also does excellent work and a plus for him is that he has or did
have a stable of various knives in his collection, so you'd not need to
send the knife in most situations, where my style I do need the knife
in order to make the sheath up.

My old web page was ditched by YahooGeocities a while back, so I just
have photos on that Photobucket page shown above and via a link if
you click on my name here in BladeForums.

There are several others that are also making very nice sheaths,
Paul Long does some with inlays.

I'd recommend checking the Leather section of this forum and see who
else may be around to help you out.

Thanks for all the answers and for the pics:thumbup:.

I am looking for a sheath with flap like the crk one.
Also like the multipurpose style so you can fit different size knives.
Even non crk knives will fit.

quote Gary:

This would be a problem for me because all my belts are about 1,5 inch.
So the Crk sheath will not fit in horizontal position.

And i think the G2 style sheaths are great.
I have made some myself with the help op Gary's buck sheath tutorial:thumbup:.

Nice work, I thought your name looked familiar!

As for a flap sheath, it's about the same, a little more effort but
not too much, just care in the process;

Most folks know that I'm not partial to flap sheaths, but sometimes
a person needs it to be covered, here is a sheath that has a flap,
he wanted it fairly horizontal so if need be, he could flip it over the other way,
so I kept the flap point more normal, usually I'll add a bit of flair
to the end to help make them look neater,

Top layer formed to the knife, but, as I did that, I had a thin layer of
leather on top of the knife, wrapped in plastic wrap, as I knew I'd be
gluing in that very piece inside when done to cover the inside snap.
If you don't do that, the fit would be TOO tight a fitup, the tricky
part was the flap, had to be done once in place, well it's all a bit tricky
each step you can end up with an experience lesson if you're not careful!

Here you can see how the middle layer comes out to make the flap
the very back of the sheath is a full length piece of leather that I
trim to about 2" wide to fold down to form the belt loop, so it's not
just an added bit for the belt loop, but runs the length of the sheath
which provides more stability and retention strength to the entire sheath
more work/leather to stitch through but I feel it makes a stronger sheath.

So for what you're asking to do, I'd recommend making a block of wood about
the size you would like and use that for the fitup.

My best to you sir!

The CRK sheath by Gfeller is great. Stout and sturdy.
I use it for my small sebenza horizontally.

Here are the cons that I've come up with, but despite all of these I am extremely satisfied.

1. I feel that for a small sebbie (may not be the case for the large/umnum) you pretty much need the fob to get it out of the sheath efficiently. If you don't like the fob, you may be out of luck.

2. It adds an extra step of having to unsnap the sheath before grabing the knife. Personally though, I prefer the extra level of security that comes with the snap. It's also less conspicuous than the sheaths that have half the knife hanging out IMHO.

3. The horizontal carry opening is also a little tight for fitting a belt through. My belt is 1-1/2" wide by 3/32" thick and I have to be a little rough when I feed the belt through. The sheath has loosened a bit over time, but the initial few weeks were a pain.

Thanks for the tips Gary:thumbup:.

And what a nice sheath.
Really like your bali sheaths and think this flap one is even nicer;).

Il like the bali's too.
Have some of them myself.

I think the bali and your bali sheath are both some pieces of art (just like the sebenza ofcourse)

I think i have to try a flap sheath myself.
And as you advice not fitted to a knife but with some type of block.
So it would be multi purpose.

Those leather sheaths are beautiful, but I've been happy with the original for 15+ years.

I use a knockoff leather sheath that I bought at a local knife store for $10. I couldn't justify spending the $40 or so for an "authentic" CRK sheath as that seems overpriced for a quality leather sheath,
