CRK section closed on KnifeForums

I wonder what prompted that?

I guess I need it explained to me, there was essentially no traffic over there, so why should I care?

Edit to add comment: Ken have you visited over there? Nothing was happening for months, except for misc CRK forsale ads. Once James realized this, and I guess talked to Anne and Chris, he closed it.

Which, if you ask me, he should do to all the dead or almost dead forums over there.

I don't frequent KF anymore, barely enough web time to keep up at the forums I'm involved with as is.

I still can't figure out why KFC is sooooooo daaaaaaaaannnnnggggggg slooooowwwwwwwww.

Sorry. Not really intended to be cross forum bashing. Just the first thing that came to mind.

KF isn't bad for the stuff that you don't find here. Plenty of traffic in the Bark River or SOSAK forums, for example. Anything that you can find here, well, it's just duplication, but on a smaller scale.

The amount of info on KF is vast and the people over there are GREAT!!!
But I agree with SuperD..........,It is so unbelievable slow that it stresses me out to visit frequently!!!
I mean....,click any topic and you're looking at a blanc screen for anything between 10 sec and several minutes!!!

No bashing intended!!!
I like most knife related sites!!!

There are a lot of members of kf that are also members here.
The kitchen forum at kf is quite good. There is no kitchen forum here.
Both places have their pluses.

Lots of forums close off sub-forums due to lack of use/life. Check the archives here to see what I mean.

I don’t have the time to check in over there very often, and probably wouldn’t have noticed that anything had happened for weeks if not for this thread.

I guess lots of people don’t have time for duplication.

Too bad but it's there loss not ours. I like all the activity over here on BF and plan to stick around here for awhile.

I haven't been going there near as much sence the last time they changed the layout.I have a hard time finding my way around and it is very slow to pull a page.I did enjoy it before.

Ditto, and I said as much to James in an email. Not to put too fine a point on it, but the new website software blows. The colors, the layout, the speed (or lack of it), the inability to log in, etc. I really like that sight and the people, but actually spend very little time there any more.

I thought I recently read that a new server is being acquired. We will have to wait and see if it really happens. But, for now I bypass KF due to it's very sluggish response especially in the evening when internet traffic is up.

James owes that to his upgrade in my opinion. Ever since that upgrade lots of traffic has fallen off over there. Here lately its been slow to load again for me just like it was in the worst of times before. He really needs to get on the stick there or more traffic is going to fall off even above and beyond what has happened already.

James is very much "on the stick" over there. He is installing a new server. He has been testing and tweaking different functions, to find and correct the slow response. I haven't had speed problems myself lately, and I am on dial-up.

Remember, there WAS a serious problem just after the new software was installed -- Hurrican Katrina. Afterwards, James Nowka went down to the Gulf, helping to restore services. It was rough for everyone, and unfortunately, it kept him away from KF just when the software was giving us fits.

I know it was bad. For a while, I couldn't get any decent access, and cut way back on my own time there. Give it a try. It's way improved now.

Esav you're a mod over there too right?

Can you explain why there so much off topic crap in many of the forums? Another reason I quit going over there is that it like w&C and community is lumped in the main knife discussion board.

I'm a mod over there too and I have high speed Cable service. I go there everyday to check into our forum and see whats new and some days I can click on a link and it goes right through just like here. Then right after a speedy link I can click another thread and go get coffee, go to the bathroom and come back to my computer and the page still isn't loaded yet.

It isn't my computer either because it does the same thing on my wife's and my lap top when I use it. Its the system over there. New or not it still gets tempermental. I have the utmost respect for James and like him personally but he seems to wait until its too late to get things working smoothly again in my opinion. We've lost far too much traffic over there. As for his going down there to help Katrina victims. I'm not referring to then. I'm talking about right now.

I think a lot of the off topic stuff is related to folks not being able to post it where they want or need to like the guys frustrated in the SOSAK wanting to get in but can't.
