I'm thinking of shipping my Sebenza 21 in for the Spa Service. Anyone have any advice and/or can share their experience(s)? One of my bigger concerns is having the knife lost or stolen on either of the trips through the USPS.
And yes I know I can ship it insured but, as you can imagine, there are sentimental issues in play here also. Thanks for any feedback anyone can offer!

I’m pretty sure I sent mine USPS Priority with extra insurance. It was 4-ish years ago. I didn’t have any problems, but I sent more than one knife at the same time and I was really nervous.

I’ve sense read lots of bad things about USPS insurance being a joke. I’m not sure any one of the big three carriers is any better than another at getting things where they belong. However, if I had to do it again, I’d probably use UPS or FedEx out of hopes that in a sickening situation, I might have a better chance with the insurance process.

I’m curious to see what others have to say.

I'm sending 4 in tomorrow. I don't necessarily trust USPS or their insurance. I always do UPS 2nd Day Air. For whatever reason, that has always ended up the safest for me.

Packing is also importat. Don't scrimp on the tape. And if you use usps small flat rate box tape those end flaps. You can even tape the knife to the box(knife in baggie), so it can't be easily removed. Just send the knife, nothing else. I have always used USPS and so far so good, but my friend (that worked for Fedx) swears by them. I believe CRK may use UPS. If you are worried about the shipping, you may want to ponder if it really needs to be sent in. There is always some risk in shipping knives.

Thank you all for sharing your experiences. I think I'm going to price out UPS and FedEx and compare them. But it's also comforting to hear of other people's successes.

I just shipped 2 usps priority and it looks like they arrived safe according to tracking today. Like others have said don’t be shy with the tape
Usps insurance is a joke I don’t even bother with it.

Why is USPS insurance a joke? I always purchase it but have never had to make a claim.

Iv personally only had one package not make it to its destination after two months of paperwork and phone calls I gave up and ate the money.
That’s my only personal experience with there insurance but Iv had other friends have the same experience. In fact Iv never heard of anybody
Successfully filing a claim and getting a refund on anything over 100 dollars

I don’t recall a specific GBU thread about USPS insurance being a joke, but it’s come up frequently in the context of other threads. Many members have had experiences similar to T The Shatz and either give up, or accept a very undervalued settlement.

Very interesting. A quick Google search confirms what you say. Apparently they are following the same policies as health insurance companies - always deny the initial claim! Make the customer jump through enough hoops and they will give up😟

I just sent one and got it back pretty darn quickly. I used USPS and that's how they returned it as well. I would recommend addressing the package to "CRK", not Chris Reeve Knives....

Very good advice; the less info indicating possible contents the better. Eliminating the name altogether would be best but that carries certain risks as well.

Well I've decided to go with UPS 2nd Day Air outbound. And yes, JD Bear, addressing the package as "CRK" seems prudent. And I also spoke with CRK directly and they informed me that FedEx is their standard default for shipping knives back to the customer and that seems fine also. I thank you all for sharing your experiences. It's comforting to hear all these positive experiences.

I successfully filed a claim. You have to wait 15 days after the scheduled delivery date to make sure it doesn’t show up late. and you have to have proof of the items value such as a receipt. I submitted the online form and a couple weeks later I had a check in my mailbox.

I just sent my 21 from Canada and so far so good. They received it and I will be notified when ready to ship back to me.

Sent 4 2nd Day Air UPS on Monday. Got notified they're all safety there today (Wednesday). Now for the 6-12 week wait for the work I requested. (Glass blasting, an engraving, and normal spa stuff.)

Thank you again everyone. I appreciate everyone's comments and used quite a few of your ideas. I shipped it UPS 2nd Day Air. I packaged it very carefully and used plenty of tape. And I addressed it to CRK as opposed to Chris Reeve Knives.
There was one little surprise while I was standing at the UPS Store's counter though. The fellow helping me asked me what was in the box! I wasn't expecting that but fortunately came up with a quick answer. I told him it was a flashlight I was sending in for service. Not sure why I lied but for some reason I didn't want to say a knife. Might not have mattered but I didn't want to take a chance. Now I wait until Tuesday and hope it arrives safely!

Have been contemplating sending several in for spa treatment and was wondering- cost aside - if shipping all in one package was the norm with you guys or do you prefer one knife per shipment. I can see benefits to both approaches.
