CRK Stonewash Finish

My iPhone won't do pics justice, so I won't bother, but I noticed something last Friday.

I had gotten in my new lefty 25, which was only 10 days away from its birthdate, so it was a very recently- built knife.

CRK seems to have switched stonewash techniques once again. My two other 25s have a definitely finer stonewash on the blade, a light silver hue devoid of stonewash markings at all.

The 2010 Umnumzaan I have has a much coarser stonewash finish in comparison to the older 25s, and my new 25 fits squarely in between the two.

Has anyone else noticed the same?

I looked at my 25's and I don't see a difference in the stonewash. I tried to take a pic, but it doesn't really show on the iPhone.

When I received a small 21 with a Feb 2015 birthday, I immediately noticed that the stonewash was much more course than on my older 21s. I called CRK, and was told this was normal variation that occurs as the stonewash media is "worn in" over time. That being said, I have several 21s with birthdays throughout 2014, all of which have an identical "fine" stonewash. To me, it seems like the course stonewash from 2015 is significantly different enough from my old 21s that perhaps there actually was a change in process and/or the type of media they are using.

I like the more course "industrial" look. The old Regular models finish are my favorite. It hides the scratches better.

I agree, the new stonewash isn't nearly as heavy. The older wash hid scratches and looked better IMO.

They'd probably just changed out the media or something. My 2012 small is darker (yet still fine) than my 2013 large which is the same as my Dec 2014 Zaan. My local shop had some Zaans from 2011 or 12 I think that have the aggressive stonewash and wish mine was the same. No big deal, but just think it looks great on the Zaan in particular, especially being a "tactical" knife.
