I wasn't able to find a topic about the new CRK&T Kit Carson designed "M4," so please forgive me if I missed one that exists!

Anyway, the new production version of the M4 caught my eye on the cover of the current issue (newsstand) of Blade magazine. I've always liked Kit Carson's designs, and I'm glad to see an affordable version on the market again.

Have any of you acquired one or even held one in your paws at a shop or show?

I am curious to know if it will be more successful commercially than the now discontinued Outdoor Edge "Magna." The Magna was a great knife in my opinion (and one of my favorites), but they didn't last on the market very long. Columbia River's marketing is head and shoulders above anything I've ever seen from Outdoor Edge, though, so that may make the big difference.

I have long yearned for a small M4, so I'm very excited about this, thanks for posting it! But I wish (1) it was smaller, that was my only gripe with the truly excellent Magna, and (2) what's with the mini-choil? It totally disrupts the flow of the blade. Not sure if it's there to help with the assisted opening, or if it's the usual attempt to add some characteristic that distinguishes the production model from the custom. I would sure like to hear from anyone who has handled one, especially the AO model!!!!!

I had asked in an earlier thread if anyone bought an M4, I too would like to see what people think. I don't think its hit the market yet.

There will be a smaller version in the future. Which I think I'll wait for.

Then I'm pimping it out till I can get a Handmade one for myself.

BTW I think it's comming out next month.

Is the M4 comparable , strength wise to the Magna ? I have a Magna and it is a flippin' tank of a knife.

I don't think we'll know until we get our chubby little mitts on a few of them!

I wish I'd bought a spare Magna when you could still find them for a decent price. I eventually replaced mine for daily carry with a CRKT M21 (another Carson design, naturally), which would be easier to replace if I lost it.

I got to handle a real Carson folder that looked exactly like a Magna, but with the scaled handles like the new CRKT M4 years ago at a gun show. It was a truly sweet piece of cutlery.

Haven't handled one, but the mini choil looks like it wraps the blade stop pin when folded.

Nothing expresses quality better than first class propaganda. It's all about appearances. Outdoor Edge didn't have a quality look to the ad campaigns.

It's how politicians get elected.

Looks like there has been subtle changes to the handle profile compared to Kit's original custom versions. Might now have to pick one up to compare :)

Talked to the gun range near me that stocks a lot of CRKT, said they've gotten some questions about the M4, and were told by CRKT that the drop date isn't until later this year.

Post back on how sturdy of a liner it is.

Man I wish they would use something besides zytel.

Am I the only person here who is sick of the various plastic type handles out there ?

so anyone have one yet? Very curious to hear how well CRKT did with this.

A local knife shop near me had one and it sold in a day. I wanted to handle it, but didn't get a chance to as it sold so quickly. they only had one.

I actually like CRKT's zytel...feels a lot better than the FRN used on other knives, tho it's not that grippy. I'm also curious on the lock. I've not been a big fan of CRKT liner locks, so I'm hoping this one's a bit better.

My local knife shop just got in three CRKT Carson M4 last week.
Very nice knife for the money. I do not care for the auto lawks
but that was all they had so I bought one. They also had one MAGNA
in stock and at $55.00 I grabed it.
Both knives have what I call thin liners it would have nice if they were
a little thicker. The M4 is not to large, fits the hand well, no play
in the blade and locks up tight. All and all a good edc.
