CRK&T M18 - Discontinued - Why?

I recently found out the M18 series knife from CRK&T was discontinued (the entire line!). I used to have a M18-02 (black inlays) as an EDC, but gave it to a friend after getting a new Spyderco.

I was just curious if anyone knew why the M18 series was abandoned by Columbia River? Did CRKT break its ties with Kit Carlson?

I doubt that it is due to breakdown in ties between CRKT and Kit Carson. Just this year they added a new model to the M-16 line with two different blade profiles. The M-21 line was brought to the market at about the time the M-18's were discontinued. The M-21 series is the M-18 blade in a handle much more like the M-16 handle.

So, basically, I think that they replaced the M-18 with the M-21.

I ask this question from CRKT about a year ago and got a response from their CEO. Bottom line, the knives just weren't selling compared the to M-16 and M-21 lines. As usual, it's a "money thing".

Side note: I like the M-18 and have 3 of them. I particularly like the 3.5 inch, all black with green G-10 inserts. You can still get them from Ebay, as you probably know.

Regards

yeah, when knives (or any other thing, really) are disco'd its usually due to lack of sales,

I got several M-18's for $13 when they were discontinued. They are good for EDC, hold a decent enough edge, and have the LAWKS to backup the liner lock. They were very sharp from the factory, but burr badly when sharpened. For $13 they were good gifts and users, but I think a new Byrd at $20 is a better value than I got for those M-18's.
