CRK Ti-Lock.. A tale of three knives.. The Prototype has arrived!!

So, a few months ago I had the pleasure of acquiring my first Chris Reeve Ti-Lock. I purchased it in a package deal along with what else an Umnumzaan!! (that's a surprise). After I received the knife I of course wanted to know everything about it. When was it made? Why was it so different than all the other Chris Reeve Knives that I owned and had seen. I basically knew almost nothing about these knives, except that it was pretty neat looking!! So I started an intense search here on BladeForums and the internet to try an learn as much as I could about my latest and to that point greatest Chris Reeve Knife. While researching I discovered that my new knife looked different that many I had seen in photos.. hmm was I missing something? Was my new knife different in some way than the what I was seeing? And why?
So after some research I discovered that the Ti-Lock came in two different finishes. Stone Washed, which is the one I had and bead blast.. which I didn't have. (the rest of that story is in the link below CRK Ti-Lock A tale of two knives..)
The comments in my first post yielded a lot of answers (and that's why we post these silly threads right?) And more questions as well. Turns out I had both variations of the Ti-Lock the still in production Stone Washed finish model and the much rarer bead blast finish (apparently only 50-60 made) But wait.. there was a Prototype!! Oh no.. not another Chris Reeve Knife to search for!!
So started my quest to find the elusive Chris Reeve Ti-Lock Prototype!! Problem was no one, and I mean no one appeared to have any interest in my quest. (and I don't blame them) Every once in a while I would bump the original thread back up to the first page with a question about the Prototype.. but with no results.:(
Fast forward (Thank Goodness) to about ten days ago.
About ten days ago someone posted a Chris Reeve Ti-Lock #19/25 on the bay!! I of course was very interested in adding this somewhat rare and to that point elusive knife to my meager collection. But before I did I renewed my research. While doing so (you must understand I am a little bit better at it now then when I began this quest) That's when I discovered right here on our favorite Forum a thread started on Christmas Day in the year of 2010 by our friend and fellow CRK fan Craig Dog. Craig had purchased on of the Prototypes from a very popular CRK dealer in Southern California (Plaza Cutlery) and did a review on the knife. (see the thread below)
So, to make a very long story even longer(:D) as part of my research into the Ti-Lock Prototype on the bay I sent Craig an email asking if he could help me with some questions that I had. To my great surprise and I must admit joy Craig responded with an offer that I could not refuse!!:D (THANKS AGAIN CRAIG DOG)
And that my friends is the reason for this thread... :D and the title of it.
All the best, Dave

Amazing Dave. I want one. Is there a press-fit stop pin on those? In all you great photos, I cant find one that views the spine to answer my question. So cool in multiples.

Congrats! Those are all very nice knives. Too bad your story wasn't longer....I really enjoy reading your threads. It's almost like I can feel your excitement through your words.

Very very nice Dave, congratulations! Fantastic story with a happy ending.

I enjoyed the pictures as well because you can see the differences in each model.

As usual, thanks for sharing your stories and pictures!

LOL LOL LOL Thanks for taking the time to read another one of my very poorly written and as always boring threads tactical!!:D It is always a pleasure to have others not only read the threads but take the time to comment on them!!
All the best!!

Thanks Birdhunter!! It is of course a pleasure to be able to share these fine knives with the rest of the CRK enthusiasts on the Forum!! And even more of a pleasure when they take the time to comment!!
All the best, Dave
Thanks again for shareing. A beautiful knife and a piece of history.

What a very nice collection you have Dave, thanks for sharing.

It seems as though there are no obvious changes from the proto to the current run, kind of neat considering how many minor tweaks the Umnum and 25 have received since their protos were released.

As always thanks for the kind words Rich!! And you are correct I have had a chance now to really look them over and compare the three variations.. the only thing I have been able to find different between the three besides the obvious difference in the finish on the handles (scales) is the pocket clip.. (and the number on the Proto of course) The prototype has the "Polished Finish" the early production model has a bead blast finish on both the scales the screws and pivot, and of course the third knife has the current "Stone Washed" finish with the screws and pivot both being polished. (the stop pin on all three knives is polished) To be honest I prefer the Stone washed finish. So, as I said the only noticeable change that I can see is the clip. If you look closely at my very poor quality pictures the tip of the pocket clip on the Prototype is squared off.. and on the production models (both variations) it has been rounded off. Other than that they are the same.
Pictures of the clips: (Prototype is on the bottom)

When a friend from the forum asked me if I want a Ti-Lock I was a little bit surprised: indeed I didn't know the Ti-Lock.
But after some research I said yes ship it to me!

Some time after I start to read Dave's poston Ti-Lock and having learned something I was able to buy here in Italy a first run one. (BTW there are still 2)

But can exist 2 without 3? Sure not! so I discovered that someone was selling a prototype ;) You guess!

Dave I beg your pardon if I use your post but open another is worthless and yours are the fault for my Ti-Lock addiction so... here is the trio:

Congratulations Alessio on your prototype! What a wonderful score you made. I have yet to see one of these Ti-Locks in person but you guys are tempting me to try one.

Lol, didn't read the whole first post but looks like you picked up a proto?! VERY nice! I like the pic of your three!

Awsome Alex!! very nice trio!!:D
