CRK Ti-lock and Sebenza question.

People don't seem to like the Ti-lock as much as the rest of their models, why is that? I personally really like it, don't have one but would consider it.

And why do Sebenza's have a hole on the handle? Seems a bit weird to me, still looks nice though of course.

And if you were to anodize the handles, do you completely void warranty or can you pay a fee for them to still service it?

Thanks guys.

From what I gather some Forumites think the Ti is overpriced... Seems like a lot of engineering, and of course there is a royalty factor. I EDC'd the Ti, and replaced the pocket clip with a web clip ,check, lengthened the lanyard, check, but I did not find opening or closing it as easy as the Seb or UM. I always had to take more time and attention as I always felt it was waiting to bite me....My understanding of the hole in the Seb, is that it has to do with machining at the factory. I did really like the feel , and size of blade to handle on the TI , so I'm going to give it a rest, and try again later... It may have a hard time retiring my LG SEB! Bart

The ti lock is an acquired taste, and can't be put through the ringer like the other CRK folders. I have wondered about the sebenza hole myself, so I can't help you there:)
anodizing would void your warranty, but I am pretty sure you can always pay to get work done if you need it.

I had a Tilock for a hot minute. It was a beautiful, well engineered, and well built knife. I really wanted to like it but it was just too light for me. I know that it is a tough knife but it felt frail to me for some reason. I just couldn't imagine it as a hard use knife like my sebenzas. I mean I really beat the hell out of my knives. I also was not crazy about the locking mechanism. It was a cool novelty but I am just a framelock kind of guy. I did love the blade size and shape though I have to admit. It has a good sized blade in a small package. I'm sure that alot of people like it and it would be a great edc. It just was not my cup of tea I guess.

Love the TiLock. Great size and look. Yes the lock takes some getting used to but there are tricks to open and close with practice.

The main gripe that many of us around here have with the Ti-lock is the price. For what you're getting, even at CRK quality, the Ti-lock is pretty expensive. That being said, I think it's an interesting knife, and I'd like to own one some day, lots of interesting concepts in it.

That random hole in the 21's scale is for machining/finishing. They have to cut the hole to get that Sebenza quality we all know and love. CRK did manage to get rid of the machining hole on the new Sebenza 25, though.

Great question......I resonate what Bart and Ernie said (not to be confused with burt and ernie :P) It is an acquired taste and many a sebenza fan are used to the super easy framelock of the sebenza. It takes time to master and break in the Ti-lock, but once you do, the fun really begins. When you master the multiple ways of opening and closing the knife it becomes a joy to use. It is is the one knife from CRK I really feel is worth the money. What most people don't see is the many small bearings hidden near the pivot which ensure super smooth operation. Then there is the extra cost of the ti loaded spring and how perfect and tight the tolerances have to be for everything to work smoothly and safely. Then there is the beautiful stonewash job on the handle scales and the custom grooves. I know all that machining costs a bit more. The result though is something great. I never had my Ti-lock once come close to failing but if you put it through hard use like a sebenza, there is that possibility. I like to think of all the knife guys who carry slip joints and are perfectly happy with a non-locking knife. This bridges the gap between them and the hard use fans out there who think heavy folders are best. ;)
