Just got a Wilson combat edition Umnum and noticed they must not sell so well its November 2016 and the birthday card is from March 2015. But my concern is opening the blade.

I have a Sebenza 21 and the washers mod is immensly helpful and smooth as butter but because the Umnum does not have a pivot bushing and the large ceramic detent ball i dont know how to make it easier to deploy. I heard about the Sebenza thumb but the Umnum is quite different and requires quite a lot of force to open. My thumb hurts on a whole different level. The eaiest way to open it without hurting my thumb is flicking it with wrist action. I cannot for the life of me open it slowly without flicking.

Any recommendations?

Does it get smother over time because the ceramic detent ball grinds the blade and detent hole and creates a grove?

Take it apart, clean the old grease off and put fresh grease. Remember, a little goes a long way.
Upon putting it back together, snug the pivot screw and adjust the tension how you like it.
Or, just loosen the pivot to see if it gets smoother.
Opening the Umnumzaan is different than the Sebenza. It's more of a push parallel to the frame first, then a arching motion.

What he said!

I did take it apart to remove the lanyard n its pin but did not clean it. Will try that instead and see if it works. Thank you

Please also note the instructions included with all editions of the Umnumzaan regarding opening. Instead of pushing the thumb studs out, you should push the up, parallel to the frame. This is different from the Sebenza line.

This for sure. Also make sure your fingers aren't slightly pushing the lock bar. Took me quite awhile (and sore thumb!) before I developed the muscle memory. Don't even think about it now. Great knife. You'll love it.

Yep, take it apart, clean and lube it, and put it back together. Makes it feel even more like it's yours.

Ok i took it apart and the opening is smoother now but have another issue. Not to be a complainer but it bothers me too much. The pocket clip is too close to the edge of the lockbar, well actually its at very end and it really digs into my fingers. Especially my pinky? I think i might have a faulty clip the tip sticks out a bit more than my Sebenza 21 even though they r supposed to be identical

Not when i hold it once it is open but rather the hold u have when your are opening or closing the blade.
