New guy post. :o

Got the Becker bug this past month. Not really a knife guy, but wanted a tool I could use while out hiking and backpacking. Spent a little time lurking on the forums here, and decided on a BK9. Well, then decided I should also try a BK2. Plan to use the BK9 as a backpacking tool, and will use the BK2 as part of my Dual Sport motorcycle tool kit.

I plan to carry the BK9 strapped to my Kelty pack. I contacted Chestnut Ridge (CRKS) after I saw their sheaths here. I asked if they could make a PACK-V sheath for the BK9. The PACK-V is a molle attachment, and I wanted it in coyote color to match my Kelty Falcon pack. CRKS came thru, and surprised me on how quick I received the sheath.

First, a pic of my new Becker family:

The sheath on the pack is a staged photo. I will most likely carry it on the left side and tie it down with paracord. Also, I don't have any of the other smaller molle pouches attached to the pack yet. Still trying to figure where I want to carry everything.

Sweet set up you've got going on there. Welcome to the sickness!!! Hope you hang out for a while. This is a great place to be.

Congrats on your new blades and welcome.

That's a good looking rig for the 9. CRKS made that special order ?

Lookin' for something like that for my 9. Thanks.

"Dual Sport Motorcycle" ? Do tell.

Hey TierHawg.....

Yeah, What model is that pack? Not used to seeing "regular" packs in tactical colors.

BK9 will be my next one too...

That's waaaaay nicer than the default kydex they offer which is foldover style and no molle locks, dis you pay extra?

Nice little family you have go on there, once you start it's hard to stop...

maybe i can help, a dual sport motorcycle is capable offroad and on( think dirt worthy street bike, or street worthy dirt bike.

Thanks for the replies all! I'll try and answer questions asked.

The pack is a Kelty Falcon 4000 Military Pack. It is a drawstring top loader, and has a large access port to the main compartment on the back. The pack is as new as the BK9, and in fact I just did a 7 mile hike today to test everything out. The Kelty Falcon pack is from their "military" line of packs. It holds 4000 cu. in. as has molle webbing all over. I'm not sure if the Military actually uses any of the Kelty packs, but I thought it was nice enough to purchase. I'm a long time CamelBak user, and will now only use their "Military" line of packs / water bladders. I was looking at the CamelBak BFM 500, but it didn't seem large enough for 3 plus days of hiking. I rolled the dice on the Kelty, and will find out if it holds up as well as a CamelBak.
In reality, I feel the Kelty Falcon is no better than a Kelty Red Could pack that costs alot less.

The sheath was made after I contacted CRKS and asked them if they could make the PACK-V for the BK9. Their website shows it for another knife. It was the same price listed for the standard PACK-V sheath.

The little knife in the plastic package is a BK13. When I purchased the BK9 it came with a BK13 also. The packaged BK13 will stay wrapped up, and probably turn into a gift for a family member.

As for the Dual Sport bike, here's a pic I took on a 210 mile ride day:

I ride both dirt and paved roads, but the roads seem to add alot more miles to the bike than the dirt does, unfortunately.

Cool. Thanks for all info. Figured you meant on/off road by dual sport.

Dirt bikes are great. Ridden all my life too.
Though currently, sadly I do not have a cycle,
traded it for my Mustang. :D

Bringing this thread back from the depths. I started it a few months ago when I was starting to set-up a new backpacking rig. Here is what I have come up with so far. I've only had the kit out once, since the snow line is still low in the sierra's. I ended up moving the BK9 to the left side. I don't really see why I would need to unsheathe while carrying, it but can be removed while the pack is on, I just can't re-sheath it.

Couple of pics with pack loaded with items shown below. Top fanny-pack part and the Camelbak are empty. The yardstick is for size reference.

Stuffing:

Left to right: Kelty pillow, Kelty down Light year 40 degree bag, Eureka Backcountry 1 tent, Cocoon bag-liner, Camelbak 3L, Thermarest Prolite pad (yes its purple), and Esbit alcohol stove. Other bags have misc clothing like long johns, u/w, teeshirts, socks, hygiene. Added for volume, don't need all of them at same time.

It all fits:

Room for more:

This pic shows yardstick bottomed out inside of pack. Its 24 inches deep, and still has about 6 inches of room left to pack. Inside of pack is roughly 16 inches by 8 inches.

I added a few 5.11 Mollee pouches. The color match is close to the Kelty. Even 5.11 can't color match itself, as both H20 carriers vary in shading. Med pouch is loaded with basic first aide kit for hiking and such. Bottom 6x10 pouch is for a ground tarp and other dirty items like garbage. Two water carriers on each side. On belt I have a pouch for my camera and a drop pouch.

Pack with everything shown weighs in at about 36 pounds. Missing are food, water and stove fuel, so YMMV. The top "Fanny-Pack" is totally empty in these pics, and is where I plan to carry 2-3 days worth of food and stove fuel.
