Hi folks,

A new member here as of today. I hope to learn much from this forum. I have a question regarding the cabochon insets in CRK's. Does anyone know what they are made of, real gems? It seems these command a significant price upgrade. I really like the designs but if they are plastic insets to look like gems I would not be willing to pull the trigger.

This may be a silly question from a newbie, But I am really curious. I have never owned a CRK in the past, however the fit, finish, and the mastery of producing a fine product is very interesting to me.

Thanks in Advance:confused:

Wow!, Thanks for that info... My finger is getting twitchy, :eagerness: If I make this happen I will be sure to post. Got to get together a few sacrificial goodies to make this happen. BellaBlades, Awesome KNife:thumbup:

Welcome to Bladeforums :)

They are indeed genuine. There have also been gold coind inset in the hole...though these may not really be cnsidered the same sort of thing depending on your personal take.

I wanted to have a cabochon inset into an existing knife, but they will not offer the service (so I did it myself). The end result is quite nice from CRK...if you have the notion to get one from CRK, I would encourage it. They are not all that common, and I think if a person is inclined to collect, these should be up on the list (because they are not super common).

I have often wondered if CRK would inset a Cabochon supplied by the customer. I have never pursued it, but it could be truly epic to have a high sentimental and economic value Cabochon in your favorite knfe (such as a gold nugget, or high-value gem stone...personally I woud like an emerald in one)

Heres my newest, and one i have been searching for, for a long time.
Morning Sun Unique with Almandine Cabochon.
The Cabochons are real stones.

Aww man.
That morning sun is amazing. What a gorgeous knife.

Thank you. Its a knife ive wanted for years. Im no collector and use all my knives, but i must admit i hesitated to put it in my pocket and use it at work lol. The hesitation didnt last long though :D.

Here is a close up of mine from when it was newer. I also changed the lanyard. I picked up some 2mm from EMS in blue and it looks nice.
Ive already been using mine every day in a shop, outdoors and house and it is great. Just scary until you get the first few character marks, then its fun from there.
