I'm looking for opinions on the CRKT 1030 for my Discontinued CRKT Collection. This looks like a solid knife that might fit my hands well. Opinions on the Outburst feature? I've noticed some "Q" models on ebay that have the Outburst feature disabled. Any downside of this? Does it make the blade hard to stay closed?

They stay shut just fine as far as I remember. It's been a while since I last played with one, though. :)

I used to own a Triumph in my early knife days but it had to go. The Outburst is fast and seemed reliable. I stopped buying AO knives in general after those early days but the Outburst worked well. The Auto-Lawks is debatable for a folder.

The thing that sucked the most about the Triumph Folder to me was that it is treacherous on your hand when you reach into your pocket for something besides the knife. Nothing but sharp, brutal edges meet you hand.

That and the cheesy blade coating. It is a decent knife though.

THe models w/ the disabled outburst were probably done as a matter of personal preference, as outburst seems to work flawlessly on all of my CRKT knives. A previous ao mechanism in models like the Voodoo broke easily (I went through 2 of the springs), but they changed the design for Outburst.

I say go for it!

It WAS done for personal preference. Many CRKT models come in both A/O and manual versions, the only differences being the model number on the box and the presence (or absence of) the spring. No difference in cost between options either, so I personally recommend (when purchasing a user) to get the A/O version and remove the spring if you don't like it. It's a simple procedure and then you at least have the option to make it assisted if you want. :)
