I got a CRKT Bear Claw for my wife, and she has a hard time pulling the knife out of the sheath. Trying it myself, I find it takes considerable force to pull it out.

There's a screw on the blade that provides tension in the sheath. It's tightened fully, so the only way to fix this would be to file off the head of the screw a bit or try to find another screw that's thinner.

This isn't a good design by CRKT. If the screw was half way in and could be adjusted, that would be fine.

Has anyone found solutions to this?

A few dozen draws and re-insertions should start to loosen it up a bit. I've had a few different CRKTs with that sheath design, and after some use, you should have no problems with it. With that way-heavy-for-it's-size knife, and a sheath built for neck carry, it needs a good bit of retention. If anything, you could take a few fine grits of sandpaper to that screw head, and knock it down some.

Here what you do.

Turn on your stove top , let it heat up. Grab the empty sheath and wave it slowly over the heat so this it heats up just a little , you have to be careful .... when it warms up put in your knife and take it out again , do that part several times fast , warm it up again and try the process until it fits perfectly.

Thanks for the tips. I've draw and insert around 50 times, but it still seems just as tough as before.

I wrote CRKT customer service and they responded the very quickly. I'm very impressed with how helpful they are with this. We're first going to see if a different sheath works better.

Considering CRKT's customer service in helping me with this so quickly, they've likely won a customer for life.

I found one of these on the ground outside a chow hall in Iraq several years ago. I would surmise that not all of the sheaths are that tight...

Tostig: Thank you!

CRKT was nice enough to send another sheath, but it was as hard to use as the original. Folllowing Tostig's instructuctions with the new sheath, I was able to loosen it enough that the Bear Claw could be pulled out with one hand.
