CRKT blade issue.

I just picked up a CRKT M16-10K Zytel at Walmart. I know it's not a great knife, but it was $20 & I like the design, except for the serrations! My first Tanto too. Everything on the knife works well, though it doesn't have a very good edge on it. The issue I have & it is obviously a mental more than a functional problem, is that the grind on the left side of the blade is not very straight. The right side is nice & straight down the length of the blade. The left side (& I'm talking about the top edge of the hollow grind, must have a name) is not very straight. It has a definite up-curve to it at both ends. I know that it may not affect performance, but it bothers me. My next door neighbor growing up (Chubby Hueske) taught me to look for symmetry in a blade & I am cursed with that habit to this day. I am going to go get another one & if they are both the same I will return both. Or should I return it to CRKT, will they make sure I get a good one or am I asking too much from a Chinese made blade?
Thanks

On the M16-01KZ I highly doubt that you'll find one that has any degree of precision in its manufacture. Not bad for twenty bucks, but not bad does not mean good.

It's a good design and a decent blade at that price point. As long as it cuts I wouldn't worry about the uneven grind too much.

I have been disappointed by every CRKT knife I've bought to date, and won't be buying them again unless they undergo some drastic changes in both quality and materials. I got a byrd cara cara G10 for $23 on walmart's site with free shipping to the store. best cheapo beater i ever bought. i use it for the really dirty/abusive jobs instead of my EDC endura. its also a great knife to throw in your checked luggage when you fly in case those dirty TWA btards decide to steal it. for me its the perfect beater because it is almost identical to my EDC in size, weight, proportions and function.

edit: when I say disappointed I meant disappointed in the materials and fit & finish, all of my CRKT knives were decent cutters once a real edge was put on them.

I've been disappointed by a handful of CRKT pieces, (the zytel M16 in particular) but am pleased with most of their lineup. The Drifter in G10 and the Thunderbolt are both excellent inexpensive pieces with solid performance for the price bracket. Are there better companies? Certainly. But as far as an entry-level company for someone not looking to spend a fortune? One of the best there is.

actually there is one CRKT knife that I do like, the Rollock. I picked one up for about $9 last year and its a fun and interesting little knife. the materials however were pretty cheap, aus 6 blade and transparent polycarbonate scales :barf: but even so its a decent little knife and a great conversation piece, easily worth the $9 i spent on it, hell i would have payed 3x that much just to see peoples faces the first time they try to open it haha.

The only CRKT pieces I like or own are the Apache series and the S2. Very fine knives and as a matter of fact just picked up another full size Apache off ebay, ats34 steel, great ergo's for me and razor sharp with PERFECT grind lines. Just a very nice edc/tac. knife. keepem sharp
