Just out of curiousity, do these knives meet the definition of an automatic knife? Or could they be compared to Kershaw speed safe knives because the "button" to activate the opening is part of the blade, not the handle? Anyone who can offer an informed opinion on this matter? I don't know that I'd want one, as they're a little pricey for the materials, but I'd be interested to know how the law applies to them.

I wish I had a definitive answer for you. I do not consider knives with assisted opening like the speed safe to be an auto. We are seeing more and more jurisdictions trying to put them into the auto category. It shouldn't be considered an auto, but I'm afraid these are not very knife friendly times and wouldn't be surprised if the powers that be consider it an auto.
