well i just bought a CRKT Ed Halligan - designed Stiff K.I.S.S/Neck P.E.C.K knife. this blade just caught my eye and i had to have it. i wasnt intending on buying a new blade but i had to have this one. since i cant carry my 4.11 inch benchmade knife, i have been meaning to get a good fixed blade that i would have the option of variable carry methods. this knife is such... do any of you guys own CRKT knives? i have heard great things about them and have heard they are durable. so i invested. i hope i got a good one!!! what do you guys think?

i will get a picture of it up here in a bit. hang tight.

Critisim of CRKT is mainly based on their year after year decissions to continuously change to... how say we say it, "tougher" and more stain resistant steels, which incidentally also happen to be steels that are less expensive, softer, and have lower edge retention.

Quite a few respected designers choose to put their name with CRKT. Personally, when I see their lineup, I see a lot of fluff. But then again, it's all about personal tastes, right?

By the way, 4.11 inches? Is that a Ruckus?

why are they depreciating the value and quality of their knives? i just dont see the logic behind it...

are you saying that CRKT blades stain easily? i just had always heard that CRKT made very good and durable knives... :(

Where did you get this idea from my post? Reading stills are very important:

my blade is AUS6M high carbon carbon stainless steel. is this not good or something?? i was just hoping that it would be good for personal defense and carry...

Listen, if you use it and like it, it's a good knife. Don't worry about what anyone else thinks.

Almost as important as typing skills!;)

They aren't directly doing that. They are shifting their material. One reason for this may be increasing production costs forcing them to either use cheaper materials or raise prices, in which case they chose the former.

kel_aa, i was at that site earlier and that is NOT the knife i have. mine is just a blade and there isnt a handle.. i know that sounds weird but the blade extends all the way back and i guess thats part of the handle. it has a great rig or ways to carry it.. comes with a nice sheath and a lanyard to carry round your neck, a belt clip, and another way that i havent figured out just yet. i am trying to get a picture of it here for you but my camera phone is shitty.

I like them, I use one every day. For the money, they are a great bargain.

I can honestly say they stand up very well to some pretty rough treatment.

I carry the Special Forces M-16 around the house to do most anything with.

I like all Kit Carson designs because they are no nonsense hard working designs.

For the money, CRKT makes some great knives, and they do have many great designers working with them.

I modified mine a bit though, I love Kit Carsons original design, it works great and is very handy.........but I am used to thumb stud opening so I just cut both flippers off and cut the frame away from the existing studs and this allows me to open using studs.

I am a designer/inventor too, and I'll just tell you that you can beat the crap out of these knives and they will keep on going, thats why I carry one along with my SOG Revolver of course.

thanks robbie. glad ya like yours. i like mine too.

all knives will do the same thing... they can all be used as a weapon should you ever have to draw your blade on someone if you were mugged or robbed, or attacked... what does the M16 CRKT look like? do you have a link?

i am carrying my CRKT on my lanyard around my neck, i have found that this is the best way to carry and conceal this blade.

If you like them, that is GREAT! I am glad that you are happy with them. I do not like CRK&T knives, because they are using crappy steel, plain and simple. To ME, their knives are junk. I would NOT buy one, or take one if it was given to me.

For a fixed blade, the criteria for quality are somewhat different (at least no safety issues as with folding knives). Aus6a will be fine for it. Not brittle (as far stainless steels go), and should should have decent to good edge holding. It's not far from Aus8, which many if not most people are very please with. In some circumstances, Aus4 (a grade below Aus6), can even be on par with Aus 8 (a grade above yours) in slicing aggression on cardboard when left at a very coarse finish (Cliff Stamp's testing).

i dont know much about the different hardnesses of blades but i think that the AUS6m should be a good durable blade for personal defense.

Well, everyone is entitled to their opinion....but since CRKT has some knives with 154CM, and some with AUS-8, as well as those with lesser steels, I can't see how anyone could call them "junk".

I also doubt that so many great knife makers would collaborate with CRKT if those same makers felt that their name would be on a "junk" knife.
I don't think that Mr. Kit Carson thinks that the CRKT Carson M21 is "junk".
And I don't think that Mr. Greg Lightfoot would agree that the CRKT Lightfoot M-1 is a piece of "junk".

BTW, Spyderco used AUS-6 in some of their knives for many, many years, but I have never heard anyone say that Spyderco makes "junk".

I have a CRKT Lightfoot Urban Shark that is an excellent knife.
The fit-and-finish is every bit as good as any Benchmade or Spyderco that I have ever seen.
The only area that is not top-notch is the blade-steel. But even its AUS-6 is not too bad for a small folder--you just need to sharpen it a little more often than some blade-steels.

very good points allen. i think people just wanna bash knives that dont cost high dollars because.... it makes them feel good? i mean i dont know... its like with firearms.. i work in a gun shop and people wanna bash glocks all the time. thats all i have ever and will ever carry. however, they say that glocks are junk or are blocks, etc... and that sigs and HK are way better and tougher than glocks. all of which are eroneous statements. maybe its a little different, i dont know.. just seems similiar.

i saw some crkt knives that cost a few hundred dollars at the local shop i bought mine at this afternoon... they had very nice blades and were fine tools/weapons. they also had HK knives and a plethora of others.. i just think that most knife companies like: spyerco, gerber, buck, case, crkt, hk, kershaw, benchmade, etc... all make fine high quality weapons. some like others more than others but the truth is, when SHTF all of them will save your life! just my thoughts...

Hope you'll never have to defend yourself using a knife, but if you did, I doubt the attacker would ever know the type steel being used. :(

yea no kidding!!!!! i hope i never have to use a knife in any type of defense... and yea you are right, if you did have to use it to save your own life, i doubt the attacker who would be bleeding to death would be wondering how hard the steel on my CRKT blade was - LOL. good point rob. haha
