I just picked up a CRKT Crawford/Kasper Dragon fixed blade from Big 5 Sports this afternoon for $30 on clearance. I've gotta say, for the price this knife is great. I typically tend to stick to tanto blades but this one caught my eye. I was looking for a fixed blade to wear on my belt to free up the pocket space once taken up by folders. its nice kydex sheath with multiple belt and paracord holes is great. i typically like to have my fixed blades on my belt running horizontally instead of vertically and i can always wear it as a neck knife. this knife seems to be more of a 'fighting' or 'self-defense' style rather than utility or multi-use. it has a great weight to it in the hand. i only have 2 problems with the knife.. one is the partial serration of the blade and the other is the quality of the metal.. 9Cr18 steel. now im not a metal expert, in fact im pretty much a newbie, but ive been lead to believe that 9Cr18 steel is a chinese version of 440c. i could be wrong on that tho, so if i am please let me know.
the blade is 4.5" inches long, full tang blade. over all length is 9.25" inches. on a scale of 1 - 10, 1 being crap and 10 being absolutely amazing i give this knife a 6 or 7. i would totally buy it again if given the choice and i would recommend to a friend as well.
p.s. at the same time i also picked up a Smith's Diamond Retractable Sharpener for $4, as i didn't have any other means of knife sharpening at the moment. it works pretty well. i wouldn't say its a japanese water stone by any means.. but it gets the job done.. and it also sharpens serrations and fish hooks!
