read a few threads about it recently and just got one so i decided to go ahead and remove the troublesome auto-lawks.

see the part of the blade against the lock? when you close the knife, that part pushes against the bar and moves it back in the handle (up in the pic). the bar wants to return to the position you see it in now and that tension springs the blade open.
 
Couldn't you just put the lawks back without the spring, so you have manual lawks? I don't see any disadvantage in having manual lawks (except the extra 0.000~something grams?).
 
I cant remember the name of CRKT's assisted opening system, but the auto-lawks is a safety devise for liner locks. I'm assuming the bar moves the lawks (the funny looking thing in the 3rd pic with the purple dot on it) into position to prevent the locking bar from moving unintentionally. The manual lawks was fine, although I think I'd find the auto version quite irritating.
