CRKT CEO lock problems

Hi guys

My crkt ceo in D2 and micarta has a questionable lock. It only engages enough to not fail a spine whack if you really throw it open with a lot of force. If you open it slowly then you can disengage the lock by lightly pushing the back of the blade. Has anyone else experienced this with a ceo?

Not super chuffed, first crkt and it should have been a nice one.

Also does anyone know what the GD and 1 mean on the blade? I doubt I got the first one.

There is no such thing as a nice CRKT. Also I would think something that slim/thin would usually not be subjected to spine whacks. I'll add that CRKT is not known for quality or high tolerances.

Twosun was my go to for cheaper/lower quality knives up until now but I guess that spoilt me since they have pretty good tolerances for the money. If a locking knife can't take a spine whack then it makes me feel uncomfortable.

Despite the lower price I would have thought lock integrity was one of the things you don't cut corners with, but it makes sense.

I feel like spine whack tests are a tad dubious. How hard are you whacking it? What should a liner lock be able to withstand? How well does that translate into safety for normal use? Following from that, what kind of use do you expect for this particular knife?

I don't have direct experience with this knife but CRKT has been pretty hit or miss for me. I've seen multiple reports of quality problems with the CEO. Lately, I've shared a few posts questioning their use of 8Cr13Mov in $50ish knives. For all the cool designs they bring to market, I'd like to see CRKT step things up in terms of quality and materials for the asking price. Until they do, I'd recommend going back to Twosun or other quality budget brands like Civivi.

Considering its a thin, light use knife I'm tapping it on a hard surface rather than the whacking I give all my other folders. If I open it using the thumbstud then it usually deploys with enough force to lock up securely. If I unlock it and then push the blade locked again using my hand then it fails light taps.
I haven't had a knife with a lock that engages differently based on the force used to open it.

This knife will only be seeing light use, however the fact it can seemingly lock but still close easily makes me nervous.

If you use it strictly as a dress knife you should be fine/safe, you can just always open it with gusto, or think of it like a slip joint maybe. Where I'd start to get nervous is lending it to someone else who doesn't know its mechanics.

If it bothers you contact CRKT.
I once emailed their customer service dept and got an answer a few hours later.
In my case , their customer service was excellent.
