CRKT Companion or Camillus Arclite?

I want an inexpensive, widely available fixed blade neck knife and I've narrowed my decision down to two models, the CRKT Companion or the Camillus Arclite (sp?). I will use this knife primarily for wearing as a neck knife. I know the Camillus is almost half as light, and I am not really fond of the hokey plastic sheath of the CRKT Companion. Right now, I'm leaning towards the Arclite. Can anyone offer any suggestions for/against either one of these blades?

P.S. I'm not interested in any Livesay knives at this time.

Since you're looking for a neck knife primarily, I don't think it's even possible to go with the Companion. It's a nice knife, but it's way too big for neck carry.

got 'em both, and prefer a livesay woo for a necker, but between the 2 ya mention, the arc lite is the way to go - the companion is too big/heavy for that - but the companion is also 10X the knife the arclite is for defense, utlity, etc imho anway.......will say this the arc lite i got was SHARPER from the factory than any others i have (BM,spyderco,CRKT,emerson,REKAT,microtech, crawford, etc) for whatever thats worth - and lol #2 is the companion.....

Just thirding what was already suggested. If you have decided on it being a neck knife, and one of those two, get the Arclite. The Companion is without a doubt, one of the best bang for buck pieces out there, but a neck knife it is not.

I checked out a Companion at a local shop, and I think the knife is best suited for belt carry. The Arclite is slim and lightweight and better suited for neck carry. I wear mine almost every day and it is not even noticeable. The sheath is well designed and holds the knife firmly, although you will end up with scratches on the knife from the sheath, but for the a $20 + knife, who cares? :)

The Companion is a good belt knife, but the Arclite is the way to go if ya want a neck knife.

Come to think of it, the Arclite would be a good anywhere knife.
Belt, neck, vest, jeans pocket...jeez!

The Arclite is just a good size knife for multi-carry possibilities.

I have both, but I _much_ prefer the arclite. Now I just need to find a mini tek-lok for it...

Taz did a pretty good job on that handle, Michael.

I gotta hand it to Darrell too.
He did a bang up job on the design of this one. Great feel in the hand and great curves.
I still can't believe I paid under $20.00 for it.:D

I'll join the host of others and recommend the ArcLite as a neck knife. I have both also, and have a Normark sheath, but still wouldn't want the Companion dangling around my neck. Would have a lot of bruises to your sternum.

To be candid, I didn't much like the handle of the ArcLite when I got it. There is no chamferring around the lightening holes, and little if any around the edges of the handle. Finally got off my duff here a few days ago and wrapped the handle with parachute cord. It has made an exponential improvement in the knife, so far as I'm concerned.

I also worried a little at the thinness of the handle, worrying that it might twist in my hand under extreme conditions. The wrap has removed that worry also.

I communicated with the maker who put the handles on Michael's knife. The price is great, and I think it really improves the knife. His name is Timothy Johnson. His e-mail is:

In his last message to me, he said he was to soon receive red G-10, as an alternative to the blue. If I get at all unhappy with my wrap, my ArcLite is going in the mail ASAP!
