This is the second Falcon I have bought in the last month. First one from Gander Mt. at like 12 bucks or something. Liner lock hits way over on the right on that one but still locks up solid and hasn't moved at all, not that its' got any where else to go mind you but still solid as hell lockup. Doesn't have the lawks on it either. IT is a pse edge and I have sharpened it once and have used it for a beat knife and have been satisfied.

Bought a plain edge off the Forums here this week. Haven't carried it much but some. Used it a ton today though putting stones my wife has at the end of our deck. I hate holiday weekends in the summer!:jerkit: Any how this is a p.e. with the lawks with a highly polished blade. Don't know what either steel is but I imagine aus6a. I opened alot of heavy plastic bags today with stone base and heavy sand in them. Did a bit of trimming in the ground along the edge of the layment to trim out what type of shape the rocks would take. Actually these are flat stones. Needless to say the knife was filthy and supposedly dull.

That is the surprise. After all was said and done I ran the knife under the faucet and then dried it with a towel. Sprayed it down with WD40 around the pivot and then blew that out with canned air. Checked the edge pretty good and had a bit of drag on it but no chips. Didn't sharpen it but did strop it pretty good. Now it shaves hair again. Lock up is solid as a rock with a ton of room for wear. I also notice that the grind lines are very crisp and straight and near as I can tell they match side to side perfectly. Matter of fact the grinds are crisp enough that you get a good edge to the grind that you can feel if you know what I mean.

I guess the bottom line is that I didn't expect nearly anything this good from it. It's wierd. CRKT has some pretty good designs but they kind of cheap out materials and blade steel. If they made this knife with good steel and linen micarta I bet they couldn't make enough them fast enough. Thats it for me. keepem sharp and thanks for listening....oh yea did I mention I hate holiday summer weekends:barf:

Seems like the steel was ok based on the work done. How do you find the general blade shape and ergonomics?

For me the ergo's are excellant. I have rather big hands and the handle area leaves me enough to hold to comfortably. It is also handle heavy. That is more weight being in the handle. I like the blade shape alot. It has a clipped point with enough belly for skinning or what have you. It would make a decent outdoors knife me thinks because of these attritbutes.

The build quality is excellant. All seams are even, no overruns/waviness on the blade grinds, everything flush fit. Hey beats me I bought it for a beater and that is what I'll use it for. I was just impressed using it today. Bought it for cheap but the quality of build belies what a decent knife it really is. keepem sharp

Yeah, I have had some lock issues, but liners tend to be problematic. They run their steels a little soft, but the knives are fairly inexpensive and they do a decent job on the edge geometry. They tend to get ignored here mainly due to the rep of the steels they use. Kind of ironic as now the exact same class of steels is getting promoted strongly by other manufacturers.

Yep I know exactly what you mean. It is surprising too as I like to carry and EKI Commander or SOFCK. Sometimes my 710 or MOD Hornet. Out of all them I carry I can see me carrying the Hornet more than any of them. Unreal sharp and just extremely well made.

Now all that being said this Falcon is just a good knife. It is very well made, deploys effortlessly, seems to be staying sharp with undue problems, and grip ergo's are very good. It is big too which is a plus for me. Last night I took it apart and put some tetra on it as it just seemed to have a bit of crud left in it that I couldn't seem to get out without disassembly. Cleaned it up thourghly with wd40, and lubed with tetra. The build quality is excellant with highly polished screws and the liners are nice and heavy 420 ss. Handle slabs are I think zytel. Nicely textured.

Now the knife opens like it is riding on well oiled bearings. Similar to the 2 Clarks I used to have. Not only that but after reassembly and adjusting the lock it now just barely fully engages but it is solid with no problems with doing the spine whack thing out at the point. Has a ton of room for wearing in. I am just impressed to say the least with a cheap knife. Oh yea the logo is very crisp as well as the stamping on the ricasso. Nince and deep. Another thing I notice is that the knurled thumb disk, well on my EKI's the notch is square cut and the disk fits into that square. You can see a bit of light around the thumb disk on them. With Falcon the notch is rounded with a flush fit to the disk. That my friends is a sign of a quality build of materials and machining held to close tolerances. The top clip/swedge too seems hollow ground as is the main grind. The only thing I can see that is off a bit is the primary edge cantle. It is a tiny bit wider on the right side than on the left. The thumb ramp on top of the knife is perfectly done too. Not to sharp and all the steps between the cuts is very even, deep, and clear. If I could post pics I would but can't. So keepem sharp and have a happy holiday.

Great posts.
I've owned a few cheaper-priced knives that performed all out of proportion to their cost (not counting my beloved SAKs). Goes to show, a good knife is a good knife regardless.

James Y you hit the nail on the head. It is a good design. It is very well made, it has very crisp grind lines and the handle ergo's are good. Now if they kept the build quality the same and used a premium steel and so g10/linen micarta they wouldn't be able to make enough of them imho. keepem sharp

Still carrying day in and day out. Still working perfectly and no need to sharpen it yet. Just edc chores with it opening a couple of boxes, cutting some rope, and trimmed back a berry bramble with it which it did effortlessly. keepem sharp

Nice review Longbow. I picked up a Crawford Falcon last Spring and really like it. It's been out of my EDC rotation for a while, but your review prompted me to get it back out. Here are some pics of mine:

Well still carrying it pretty much all the time. At work I am carrying my Hornet. I have to say that the Falcon is the schnizzle. I just wish that CRKT would take notice and make them with something like 154CM and micarta. They couldn't make enough of them fast enoght me thinks. They would be popular for sure. keepem sharp
