U.S. Customs Headquarters agrees with Columbia River Knife & Tool,
releases models for immediate shipment.
In a ruling today, U.S. Customs Service Headquarters in Washington, D.C. agreed with Columbia River Knife & Tool (CRKT) that our folding knife products do not violate the U.S. Customs Service Switchblade Regulation. Forty-nine (49) of the fifty (50) models seized by Portland Customs on Oct. 6 have been cleared for immediate sale, and we expect that the single model under question will also be cleared soon. Shipments to all our customers will resume Monday morning, October 23.
It is important to note that U.S. Customs Enforcement & Management--Portland acted with speed and sensivitity to the situation,
working hard for a quick and just resolution.
The fifty knife models, all of the Locking Liner folding type, are utility and sports models designed and promoted for daily work tasks. Locking Liner designs are a mainstay of all major knife manufacturers in the United States.
For the past 6-1/2 years, CRKT has worked hard to design and produce the best multifunction working knives available. Those who use knives daily, and depend on them in their trades, understand our commitment.
While we have not seen a written copy of the U.S. Customs Headquarters ruling, it is our belief that the release of the seized knives is a vindication for those concerned about the personal freedom to manufacture, sell, and carry a working knife which meets all legal regulations.
We wish to sincerely thank everyone in the blade industry for their support during this crisis, and we hope this is a battle which will not need to be fought again by other knife manufacturers in the future.
