CRKT Deadbolt concern

I recently picked up a CRKT Parascale with the deadbolt lock. I bought it primarily for the deadbolt and the abiluty to rewrap it. I looked at lots of videos and demos and the locking system seems hell for stout as they say, BUT....
I was using it to split some small kindling kind of like a half thickness cedar shake. I was comparing how the CRKT could push split cut the wood vs other knives, and on the second cut I noticed my thumb had depressed the lock. I was pushing down so there was no risk at that point but it made me uncomfortable. If the blade got stuck in the wood and I pulled up while my thumb was on the lock, it would have collapsed maybe on my fingers. Am I worrying about nothing or something?

Lots of locks have risks in certain grips, so the deadbolt is not alone in that. Some mid-locks can partially release in very tight grips, fleshy fingers can open liner locks, button locks can suffer the same as the deadbolt. Every thing is a compromise that one needs to recognize and workaround.

I think it could just be the way you were holding the knife. My concern with the deadbolt lock is it becoming loose and wobbley due to regular wear. It does not self adjust to compensate for wearing out over time.

It was definitely the way I was holding the knife. I have lots of knives with locks of many types. I bought the knife for the deadbolt lock. My natural grip for a knife is thumb on the pivot index finger on the other side. So my thumb rests on the lock. I'm carrying it everyday this week to see what I think. Interestingly I have not heard this issue previously brought up about the deadbolt. So maybe its a non-issue.

With absolutely all due respect and no snark or judgement from me, I am not sure that I personally would have purchased a knife with a locking mechanism that required a lock arrangement to be set in a certain position, where that lock mechanism also happened to be located in the same space as my preferred area to grip and manipulate a knife. If you depress the button, the lock disengages, and if you're pinch-gripping the knife right there, there is indeed a possibility that you might unlock the knife at any given time. Honestly, if that were my usual manipulation of a knife, I'd most likely go with a small fixed blade, or a back/Triad/Compression lock. Something where my fingers being right there wouldn't cause an inadvertent lock release if I was trying to cut through difficult material.

agree with Quiets thoughts. besides the tri-ad which is the strongest knife lock to date....the shark lock is up there too and the lock release isn't in the way for a pinch grip.
