Anyone have one of these? They look really neat and I'm deciding between it and the BM Griptilian 550.

I have a CRKT Grant Hawk D.O.G. and like it! I don't know anything about the BM Griptilian 550, though.

Hi NeedleRemorse:

I have both: I like them both (PEs), but they're different from one another in balance and feel.

I can deburr the DOG more easily with a strop than I can the Grip'n, and the blade is certainly more substantial on the DOG. I think the clip point on the DOG is more to my liking than the clip point on the Grip, but I have both blade styles of the BM.

You really need to handle each to see which fits you best.

You will not go wrong with either of these; they're both sweet, well made, and great value for money.

Best regards

I've had my D.O.G for a while now and I love it!
The blade is AUS8 with a thick spine.
Because the lock design is slightly different, it is
very fun to play with and has rock solid lock-up!
The belt clip design is diff. than I'm used too also.
It is short with a little half ball on the inside tip.
This allows the knife to rotate slightly and not loose its grip.
This knife is pretty thick though, not really ideal for
in pocket carry.
I'm with Berzerker on this one. You sould go handle them
and see what you think.

I also have both.

I carry the Griptillian often, but the DOG doesn't work as well for me. I do like the balde and profile, but its too heavy and bulky for me to carry comfortably. Also, I like one hand closure on my knives, and I find the DOG needs two hands.

I recommend the Grip over the Dog. I have it for its uniqueness, but I carry the Grip and use it.

Cheers

I guess the cool factor is the major reason that I want the CRKT, but there are really 4 knives I want for Christmas.

A.G. Russell Premium Scout Knife
SAK Soldier
Griptilian
DOG

I guess it comes down to the Grip and Dog, so I wanted to know a couple of things.

1) Do the zytel inserts on the handles lift at the edges?

2) What does the handle texture feel like on the Griptilian?

Thanks

Hi NeedleRemorse:

I used the cross-hatched scales on my DOG, and had no lift at all. The cool thing is that you can use the other included scales as a pattern for making your own scales from whatever you choose (CF, exotic wood, MOP, etc).

I didn't find the Grip's FRN to be a problem, but then I haven't used it (or the DOG) with cold, muddy, oily hands either. I will say that the forward finger cutout feels more pronounced on the DOG. That being said, I have large hands (a Lone Wolf Harsey fits well), so my preferences are biased in that way.

Hope this helps a bit.

Best regards.
