I just receive my CRKT Dragon.

The design attract me but when I take the knife in my hand fo the first time I discover the handle is full of sharp angels, the edge is poor out-of-the-box (steel ???) and the sheat is made of poor quality plastic (?)...

Conclusion : I'll never buy a CRKT again ! :thumbdn:

The initial edge was poor on several I have seen as well. Sharpening it however should not be an issue, you can also often try sanding/grinding the handle a little to remove some of the sharp points.

I can't take seriously a post from someone who proclaims, on the basis of one knife he has dismissed with such hyperbole, that he will never purchase another knife of the same brand again, especially when the company concerned has so very many designs of folders and fixed blades on the market.

I just bought a Dragon myself, not too long ago. The sheath is of decent quality; the only thing about it I did not like was the SOG-style attachment mechanism that is so big and bulky. I simply removed it and attached a Blade-Tech clip, just as I did with my SOG Pentagon.

There was nothing wrong with the edge on the one I purchased. It was more than adequate out of the box.

The handle on the Dragon provides relatively good traction and is indeed contoured for the hand, which some people will not like. I like it fine, though the handle itself is just a little too short for my big fat paws. There's nothing wrong with the design itself.

Overall, I think the Dragon is an excellent self-defense blade in a perfectly adequate package that is also very affordable.

That what happens when you by a knife based on looks. I haven't handled one of the new CRKT Dragons, but I've recently acquired the Dogfish and Triumph N.E.C.K. knives and while the edges on them were decent, it didn't take long to give them the kind of grabby edge I like. The steel on the Dragon is 9Cr18, a Chinese steel comparable to AUS8. As for the sheath, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it Kydex? What's wrong with it? The Kydex sheaths on my Triumph and Dogfish are good. Just because you don't like the feel of the handle and don't like the sheath doesn't condemn the brand as a whole. Have you looked at their other products?

I can sympathize with not liking the plastic sheath , sometimes they might be designed well for the intended purpose but may look and feel like crap such as the sheath for the Fixed Falcon.

My rule on knives is that if I buy it and am not happy with some of the features I will change them to my tastes , if the handle has too many sharp angles then I smooth them out , if I need thumb notches - I make them.
I almost always have to reprofile a blade no matter what brand the knife is , since I prefer a thinner edge on many knives.
CRKT has made some lame knives but they have also made some great knives , both statements though are my opinion since I am sure there are folks who think the knives I think are lame , are great.
Did that make sense ? :)

I have several Knives ranging in price from $10.00 to $400.00. Some of my inexpensive Knives seem to just as good as the high $ ones.

Dear martialist,

It's the third CRKT I bought and it's the third CRKT I sold as fast. Always for the same reason, great look, poor quality ! That's why I'll never buy a CRKT again ! That said, I'm happy for you if you enjoy your C/K Dragon and you find it's a excellent self-defense knife but seriously, for those who are looking for a true decent self-defense knife, forget this model and forget CRKT !!! You will find even better for the same buck on the market !

I am very picky when it comes to knifes for self-defense. There are different tools for different tasks. I am not familiar with the CRKT model that you mentioned but have seen a fair number of adequate and inadequate models in CRKT. I would not place them on the back burner because of it. For the price you can find one for your needs. Here in Iraq they sell a lot of the CRKT brands in the PX. I particularly carry the Hissatsu for personal use (self-defense) on my vest. The edge is fair out of the box and have sharpened it to my liking. I do respect your opinion and if you are done with CRKT than that is final. You can't please every one all of the time.

I think your opinion is uninformed and stated with too much hyperbole to be credible.

I like it more than any word that was every invented since the dawn of humanity. (Points if you understand why that statement is ironic.)

I vow; on all which is holy; to never speak with hyperbole so long as blood courses through the caffeine-throttled labrynth which is my circulatory system.
